Nuisance Bugs...

Can anyone tell me how the bugs are at the end of May? Should we bring some type of bug spray, or are the little nuisances not really out yet!;)

Where are you going to be??? They aren't really much of a problem Inside Passage where most visitors go. Interior Alaska can be horrific. :)

I'm also concerned about mosquitoes - when I have not been properly prepared, they seem to love me and some of my bites have a tendency to swell up. I'm on the Vancouver to Whittier itinerary the last week of May and will be spending a few extra days in Anchorage, Seward and Denali NP the first week of June. Are the bugs out then?

The mosquitos are vicious even in mid-May. There was no problem until we got away from the water and into some sort of vegetation. We encountered them on a hike at Taku Lodge and at a park in Anchorage. We had no problems when we drove into the Yukon though.
