Can someone who's been on that itinerary comment? Are you able to dock at all the ports or do some require tendering? Thanks!

If your itinerary includes the Falklands, you will tender there. The only other ports we used a tender were Puerto Chacabuco and Puerto Montt. Our cruise was from Valparaiso to Rio, and we did not stop at Puerto Madryn, so I don't know if that is a tender port or not. Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Ushuaia, Punta Arenas and Valparaiso are all "pier" ports. Hope this helps you a bit--you are in store for a great cruise!

I think we do stop at the Falklands -- have to double check. That along with Puerto Montt is two places to tender. Bummer! Oh well... Hope it's calm seas. We had to convince my Mom she would be OK on the tender last time and that was only at St. Kitts! lol

Hi ALadyNCal,

I wouldn't spend the rest of 2004 worrying about your S.A. cruise. We did the Infinity this past February and had remarkable weather and calm seas. It is the "luck of the draw". Read some more about that area and just take some medications with you. It could be very rough. There is usually only a 20% chance you will be able to tender in the Falklands. If you look at the map, you will see where it is situated. We tendered on our cruise and when we got ashore, the winds were so strong we had to return to the ship. We did walk to the Museum and viewed the history of the Falklands, but if you miss this port, it is no big deal. To think that there were lives lost during the little war Argentina and Great Britain had over this little island. We had to buy a Falkland Island's hat for a friend who did this itinerary six months before us and their ship was not able to tender there.

ALady-Puerto Montt is well protected from the open ocean-I think there would have to a major storm or really high winds to affect tendering operations.

On the other hand, as mentioned above, the Falklands can be dicey. It was fairly calm the morning we put in there, but by late-afternoon, it had gotten very windy with whitecaps as we caught the next-to-last tender back to the ship. Luckily, we had the full day there and really enjoyed our visit. We took the city tour in the morning, which included the museum and then the afternoon excursion to Long Island Farm, a sheep ranch, and it was very interesting. Hope you make it in to the Falklands ok.
