48 hrs - Santiago or Valparaiso?

We will have 48 hrs post cruise. I am trying to decide whether to book hotel rooms in Valparaiso or Santiago?

Any suggestions?

Should we tour Valparaiso and then head to Santiago for the two nights?

I would hate to split it up and have one night in each place -- but would consider it.

Thanks.

ALady: having been to both cities recently, I would consider your first option: spend the first day in Valparaiso/Vina del Mar and motor over to Santiago for tow nights. As nice as Valparaiso and Vina del Mar are, I think you can see most everything in one day there. Santiago is a much larger city. This is just my opinion-hope you get more opinions to help you decide.

Vina Del Mar is a nice option too, its a resort type town next to Valparaiso.

I took the South America trip in Jan 2003 on Zenith had a blast!
