New Austaralian Cruise Line .

Recommended Posts

A new cruise line has been introduced to

"Downunder"

offering great destinations..

A small ,but state of the art ship,

106 passsengers,

will begin cruising in March 2005.

It will be offering cruises from Antartica to the Top end of Australia.......

The prices will also be Top End,

but it will offer some great destinations.....

For any one interested, they have just set up a web site .....

Orion Expedition Cruise

I wish them well.....

Hi KiwiKruzer - I wish them well too - although I agree the prices will most likely be a little too "Top End" for me!

Great to see someone addressing the issue though of having a year-round cruise line which isn't "oarty-ship" based.

Only concern I have regarding the intended itineraries is...East Timor?? icon_confused.gif ...don't we Aussies still have security forces up there? icon_eek.gif I would have thought anywhere near that part of the world would be risky?

By the way...Bon voyage.... icon_biggrin.gif emailing you soon

Hi Robyn,

Yes, I raised my eyebrows about East Timor as a destination. As far I am aware there are still Australian and New Zealand peace keeping forces up there.

I would also think it wise to keep Indonesia,New Guniea, and Honiara off any proposed destination list.

The Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays and the Top End round to Darwin have so much to offer.

If the cruises are marketed around the world, with the added bonus of the Ghan Rail trip now having been extended to Darwin, they could be onto a winner.

"Sea Cruise" to Darwin .....

then "Rail Cruise "through the dessert..........

Hi Kiwi Kruzer,

Yes - sorry to leave the Kiwis out of the security forces still in East Timor - not very much of the Anzac spirit by me is it? icon_redface.gif

I'd be really happy with the "Top End" itineraries and "Ghan" cruising as you suggest. Hope it is successful.

What's that noise?....Oh, I can hear you singing from here..."my bags are packed, I'm ready to go..."!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Bon Voyage...safe travelling icon_cool.gif

Orion Expedition Cruises (Sarina Bratton) has forgotten about the southern portion of Australia. How about bringing the Orion over to Kangaroo Island, Adelaide, Albany, Fremantle, Monkey Mia and Ningaloo Reef? Better here than East Timor, Indonesia, etc... Just a suggestion.

Cheers

Hornblower!

Excellent suggestion of "bulbous" proportions icon_wink.gif

The ports you suggest would be ideal for a ship of this smaller size. I'd be at Monkey Mia and/or Ningaloo Reef before you could say "Orion"!

If this class of ship can weather Antartctic storms - the Great Australian Bight should be a piece of cake icon_smile.gif

Have I been found out? I'm curious. E-mail me.

Maybe Antarctic storms aren't as bad as huge waves in the GAB. I think as you get closer to the Antarctic it's not so bad, protected by bays. It's when you start going further north in-between Antarctica and Australia/New Zealand. Here you'll find massive waves. Of course we are talking about winter and not mid-summer.

Yep, there are heaps of places this ship could go to in and around Victoria, SA and WA. Who knows maybe Sarina will consider these places once she gets feedback.

Cheers

I agree ....

keeping her around Australian ports would

bmajor news......

I would love to see a circumnavigation around Australia as well......

I am sure it would work....as could they could sell short notice sectors to keep the ship full.

Mike & Jon - sorry, but Kiwi Kruzer is in Europe at the moment preparing for a QM2 cruise and then an NCL Baltic Cruise icon_biggrin.gif - won't return until end June.

The tour and the cost sound reasonable, but in my eyes it would depend upon who the tour operator is and the level of accommodation offered. Can you post more information?

Regards from "Down Under"....Robyn
