naiaed Posted April 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2008 I'd really, really like to go dog sledding in Juneau! The coastalhelicopter tour is a bit pricey though. If I want to go dog-sledding -- on ice, not the wheeled carts -- what other options do I have? Also, which is the best dog camp (mushers?)? I know of caribou crossing and red dog saloon, but those seem to be mainly a museum and bar...
naiaed Posted April 10, 2008 Author #2 Share Posted April 10, 2008 I give up on dog-sledding on ice! :'( I'll take the wheeled-sled instead. Can anyone tell me how to visit a dog sled camp in Juneau please? I hear there's one in Skagway -- could I just drop by, or do I need to sign up for a tour? Which have you tried and loved? mosimon Posted April 10, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2008 Don't give up - JUST DO IT! This is going to be my first time in Alaska and probably my only. I want to be able to say, "I went to Alaska and I went on a dog sled ride on a GLACIER!" It's a lot cheaper to do it now then "try" to get back and do it then. YEah, it's a little pricey, but Come ON, IT"S ALASKA!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT -DO IT - DO IT - DO IT - DO IT -
hncg57c Posted April 10, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2008 It is pricey, but it is a one in a lifetime experience. If you really want to do it and can afford it, I would say do it. For our upcoming cruise, dogsledding on a glacier is probably one of the excursions that we are most excited about.
naiaed Posted April 10, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted April 10, 2008 *sob* I know, I debated this for a long long time but I can't in good conscience have my parents pay that much money for one tour (I'm doing the planning for us) -- the cruise itself and the shore excursions all add up! :'( sad. Budget Queen Posted April 10, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 10, 2008 The only drive up option, inside passage is Caribou Crossing in Carcross. As far as I know, the Juneau and Skagway cart rides are ship contracted and not available for walk/drive ups?? The Red Dog Saloon is a bar downtown Juneau, not anything to do with dogs. :)

Not sure how old you are??? Can you pay part, forego birthday/Christmas gifts this year??? Your parents may also be very willing to spend this on you for your enjoyment???
