70notout Posted April 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We arrive on 18 October, have booked our hotel, but not sure if there are shuttles going to various Manhattan hotels when we disembark. Does Princess arrange transport by bus at all? Or is it a mad scramble?
Rare Got2Cruise Posted April 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2008 We arrive on 18 October, have booked our hotel, but not sure if there are shuttles going to various Manhattan hotels when we disembark. Does Princess arrange transport by bus at all? Or is it a mad scramble? Hey there. I think it is wonderful how we can communicate from half-way around the world. I have never taken a Princess cruise, so you might want to check directly on that board. BUT, in general, the cruiseships arrange transportation if you book your hotel directly through them as a post-cruise stay. These are large coach style buses. You need to wait for them to fill-up before they leave the pier. If you booked your hotel on your own, you should arrange for what we call a "car service" to pick you up from the pier or use a medallion taxi. Remember that Princess leaves from Red Hook Brooklyn. There are several threads concerning transportation from Red Hook on this page, where CC members list reliable car services.
70notout Posted April 14, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted April 14, 2008 Thanks for your advice. We tried to get the post cruise hotel through Princess but in the fine print only for US citizens, although our TA tried for weeks. They did give us an extra night in Toronto at their reduced rate. Yes, it is a small world and we met some really nice CCs on our Tahiti trip. In fact posted every day on every subject. I see you are going to Alaska in July. We were on the Sun Princess last July and did a bus trip through The Rockies. We enjoyed Canada and the lovely Canadians so much we are doing the East side this time. The train trip to the Yukon is a great trip and if you get to Victoria don't miss the Buchart Gardens. We have some long flights but it will be worth it. Looks like a hire car is the answer to Manhattan.
Rare Got2Cruise Posted April 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 14, 2008 Don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions about New York. How does your money hold up in the States? Is it as strong as the Euro? Fabulous shopping in New York.:D Thanks for your advice. 70notout Posted April 14, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted April 14, 2008 Would you believe our dollar is worth .79c, although the best it has been for some time. Even a reasonable hotel is plus taxes and then the exchange rate adds on heaps. Us Kiwis love to travel so we bite the bullet and just go. Because we live so far away we are keen to explore the world even though the long flights are a pain. Better warn New York we are coming!!!! Want to see a show on Broadway. What can you recommend. Have seen Le Mis and Phantom.
