Cruise to Nowhere

Has anyone been on a 2 night cruise to nowhere? Are they even worth it? Do you get full service of the ship as you would with a normal cruise? Is there entertainment like on a normal cruise?

Please advise. I'm toying back and forth with the idea.

Thank you.;)

I went on a one night CTN as a meet and greet of some forum friends. To begin with, we knew it would be a 'booze cruise', the duty free shops opened as soon as we were an hour out, with unlimited shopping. services were not quite full...no room service, some people were disappointed with dining room although we had no complaints. We did not get turn down service in the cabin. A two nighter would be better...Use it if :

1. You need a cruise so bad you can taste it

2. You just want to look over the ship and see if you might like a longer cruise on it.

3. As above, but you are trying out a different cruise line.

If the price is right, GO! EM

I know of people who do them and enjoy it as a break. I think it is more fun to do it with another couple or two. If nothing else it will give you a feel of what a ship and cruising is about before you invest 1000's of dollars in a cruise vacation.

I've been on several 1 and 2 night cruises and I enjoy them. I guess that's why I've been on several. As mentioned they are more of a party boat but still many facets of a normal cruise are present. Entertainment is the same as are dinners. The casino is usually very active with higher table limits for these cruises. I would say the personal attention by the crew tends to be a little lower on these cruises. But I think that is because most people aren't on these cruises to relax so they don't need it. In fact, I'm heading out on another one next month.

Big waste of time as far as I'm concerned. Has to be at least 3-5 days to make it worth the trip for me. 1-2 days, you just get on the ship and it would be time to get off.

But lots of folks do like them. There is definitely a more party atmosphere onboard than you find on a longer cruise. Maybe for a first timer that didn't know if they liked to cruise, but I still don't think it would be indicative of a longer cruise.

Thank you for all your inputs.

Now that I know it's more of a party cruise - I have to think harder on this.

I have been on cruises before and yes I am so itching to go on another one.

But, it's actually more for my nephew who has never been cruising and wants to go on a cruise with me. Being that it was a two day - he could get a feel for it and being that it's his birthday the day the ship is out at sea - I thought this cruise would be great.

It this a type of cruise to take a 14 year old in October????

Thanks,

Rose:o

I don't think I would take a 14 year old on this cruise. Nothing really is geared toward kids and he might get a bad impression of some adults. LOL. I have seen some kids on these cruises but not many so your nephew might not find any friends to hang with.

My husband and I went on a CTN in Oct of 2006 of of NY aboard the Carnival Legend. While it definitely was not a booze cruise/party ship, I saw one child on that cruise. Of course, there may have been more, but I only saw one. I really doubt there were many. So I don't think a cruise like that would be good for a kid of your nephews age. I have a 15 year old son and certainly wouldn't take him on it. A longer cruise yes, but not the CTN. He would be bored.

We did a 2 night cruise on Celebrity that was supposed to be a cruise to nowhere but ended up with a stop in nassau. We did a transatlantic and stayed on for the following 2 day. After our experience, we would never do one of those short cruises again. It was not the normal Celebrity crowd. Bars were packed with people standing 6 or 7 deep so that the bar waiters couldn't get in to place the their table orders, people sat anywhere in the dining room instead of their assigned seating which caused problems for those who were assigned those tables, I even saw someone who lit up a cigar right outside the dining room and then proceeded to get on an elevator, stormed the buffet lines and overloaded their plates to such an extent that they actually ran out of cooked food at breakfast and had to cook more since there was still an hour of breakfast time to go, etc. It seemed like people were trying to get the most for their money as that 2 day cruise was well over $150 per day. Anybody who took that cruise to see what Celebrity was like would get a false impression.

Would not think it worth the time unless I could walk down to the port. You spend a day getting on..... on day at sea..... then a day getting off.

That doesn't include the travel time if you have to fly or drive in. ;)
