Gty Room Assignment - NOT HAPPY

I do take the blame... BUT as you can see from my signature' date=' I have booked ALOT from this PVP. I trusted her [/quote']

On this Forum, time and time again I or we have had to burst peoples bubbles, PVP do not have all of the answers, most of them have never even set foot onboard a single ship. Most are very new as there is a high turn around in that type of job.

Their job is solely to get you to book that cruise, thats their final goal.

If they were smart they would start reading these threads to education themselves within their own job occupation.

Richard's Mom you have close to 400 post on here, did you ask anyone on here the question about booking a guarantee cabin?

We scheduled with a TA in January for the Conquest. He told us we had to book a room with one adult in each cabin since our kids are younger. He gave us two cabin numbers that were directly across the hall from each other. We are now 40 days out and when I go on the Carnival site it has TBA for the stateroom. If the TA already gave me the stateroom numbers shouldn't it be on my reservation by now?

TBA means To Be Announce, that means this person booked a Guarantee cabin, I highly recommend you call this person now and get your specific cabin number.

The Cabin numbers should of been in your eDocs and or confirmation invoice on day one.

Sorry to hear that you have a little cloud hanging over your cruise. I know it's tough, you want everything to be perfect. But, you may like this arrangement. Who knows? The kids will like their little freedom, and you won't have to worry about waking them if you come home late from the club a night or two. ;)

We've always booked adjoining cabins, the ones with the connecting doors. Costs more up front, but we've gotten OBC about two weeks out every time so far. ::knock wood::

Hope you have a great cruise anyway!

This is not true. I currently have two cabins booked GTY -- one cabin with DH and I and one cabin with our 15YODD and 9YODD. They did not make us book one adult to each cabin.

Of course, now I'm really worried about where we're all going to end up!

Ship addict,

you really should call whomever you booked with. This is NOT possible! There is no way ANYONE can book 2 children ages 15 and 9 in a gty cabin. NO WAY..... Call now. The PVP or TA had to book the kids in a cabin right beside you or across from you. At that age, I hope its right beside you and hopefully in a connecting. Have you paid you full deposit, if so, then at that time you could have choosen a cabin. That has to be the situation. Or you have an adult booked into each cabin. Check it out today! There is a problem somewhere!

As far as the OP,

Not sure about the conversation about the upgrade coupon. If he was saying all this, he was misleading. I do see where you were trusting of him and he was untruthful. So I understand your case.

There is NO WAY to guarantee that the 2 cabins are next to one another. Someone mentioned linking, that is mainly for dinner but some that are linked are put together. But, you have to think, when they go to assign these cabins (a few weeks before sailing) most cabins are booked. How can you put all the gty cabins together when you have sold so many cabins. Its luck if they still have a few cabins that are close to one another. If they do have them open, they will let the gty cabins get them. Noone can predict if there will be ANY cabins side by side a few weeks before sailing on any particular ship. So there is no way a TA or PVP can guarantee that you will have 2 gty cabins next to one another. UNLESS you book a gty and the TA/PVP goes ahead and assigns the cabin at the time of booking.

We have discussed gty cabins many many times on CC. People need to understand that sometimes they can be great and sometimes they can not so great. You take the chance by booking gty. If kids are involved, DO NOT BOOK A GTY unless you are ok with actually having an ADULT in the cabin with them! Do not always ASSUME that you can switch once onboard. If the cabins you booked are not side by side, then Mom needs to stay in one cabin and Dad needs to stay in the other. If the 2 cabins are decks apart, please do not complain, this is what YOU booked when you asked for the gty rate.

If you are not happy, lesson learned and know that you need to choose your cabins next time.

Hope no one is taking this the wrong way. ;)

dman,

if you are part of a group booking, then you will see TBA for your cabin number.

Your TA does have docs with your name and cabin # on them that he/she can send over to you. (Just for your reassurance)

Not sure if this is your case, but it could be.

Good luck and also I'm sure your PVP booked one adult in each cabin- which can be a pain with the sign and sail cards- one purser didn't want to change them-- only a big deal because we don't give the kids charge privledges. good luck.

Thats because "changing" the cards means changing the reservation to something against Carnival policy. All you needed to have asked for is new key cards to the other cabins, not new cards. Your mistake, not the purser's.

Your original card has the credit card information tied to it, not tied to the cabin, so it doesnt matter where you sleep. The extra key cards from the purser's desk are just cards to get into the other cabins.

Just wanted to clear this up as there seems to be a lot of confusion going on in this thread.

That happened to me, a friend and Cruise Critic member DianeF, we linked our 3 booking numbers together so we can sit together for dinner. We all had Cat. 1a or Cat. 4a cabins and we were all upgraded together side by side with Cat.5a cabins. It does happen but I wouldn't take a chance.

Sounds good Fred. Glad it worked out for you.

If the cabins are open, Carnvial will gladly put the "links" together. The cabins just have to be open. I just dont want people to think as long as they are "linked" they will get cabins that are together. It really scares me when children are involved.

I assure you, this IS how I booked. If I wanted to splash my personal information all over the Internet, I would show you copies of my completed FunPass with passenger names and confirmation numbers. I don't know who did it, I don't know how they did it, but it was done. I have a call in to my TA right now about the reservation, but unfortunately she is in Mexico and won't be back in the office until Thursday.

We are booked in a group rate, but I paid my cruise off in February and we aren't leaving until September. I don't think we have the option of choosing a cabin at all due to the type of group booking we have. Unfortunately, i will have to wait til Thursday to find any answers.

Thanks for the lesson. As a member of CC since 1995 and a veteran of 9 Carnival cruises, I think I fully understand their policies.

Apparently when the PVP in this case said the 2 cabins would be close, she meant on the same ship.

Let us know how it turns out.

The OP is on the same deck, 1/2 deck away from the other cabin. One is midship and one is aft on the same deck. This is considered close together.

If you read another post, two cabins got assigned 7 decks apart. That is far away. Being on the same deck is considered close together by Carnival standards when assigning a guarantee.

No - I didn't have to. I knew what it ment. I have been around long enough to know that there are specials that come up with special fare codes. So, when the PVP told me about waiting for the coupon number to come out, it thought it would be a good thing. My PVP also assured me that the coupon that I would be waiting for would be acceptable to use on an existing booking. Go figure. I know, I got what I paid for - I was just lied to. I don't like that. I would have paid the extra money at the time of the booking, but I didn't based on the PVP recommendation. She said "it didn't matter how much I paid, she gets paid on the number of rooms booked not the the amount we paid." So, I believed that I would still get what I wanted. My family and I have booked over 20 sailings with her. WHY would she lie to me now? So, I trusted her. If it was a short sailing, I would not have a problem, but since we are sailing 7 days it is a different story.

I don't mean to ramble on and on - It just frustrates me when I here others are lied to also.

Ah, that sounds like the answer, its a group cruise and the TA has cabins held in a block so the TA will be able to put you next to your children and comply with the Carnival policies.

Had you mentioned this was a group cruise TA that allowed you to book children into their own cabin, folks would have understood. You say you fully understand Carnival's policies, so then you knew when you said it that what you said was done was against Carnival's policies and threw it up as if anyone booking thru a PVP just on their own could do it. I get it now why you could do it, but some information wasnt in your post explaining why it was allowed.

Question! when you guys speak of PVP's you're talking about the one's that email/call you....not the Cruise vacation specialists you get when you call Carnival direct right?

anyway, Her pvp might have asked a supervisor to place them close and it was impossible..maybe those were the closest cabins left...you cant say she LIED to you or didnt keep a promise

I do take the blame... BUT as you can see from my signature' date=' I have booked ALOT from this PVP. I trusted her when she said, "don't worry - there is always a coupon that comes out in Jan. that will allow us to upgrade you to a assigned cabin." "Just book now and I will make sure you get what you want at the first of the year". So, why shouldn't I believe her????? In addition, I called her multiple times to see if the coupon came out. I did not just assume she would remember. Once it did come out, she said there was nothing she could do for me. WELL, I wish I would have paid the extra money up front. So, yes I understood what gty meant. I just trusted someone I shouldn't have with my vacation!!! I was not trying to get something for nothing. I am a great customer of Carnival's. If they offer a coupon, I should be able to take advantage of it. I didn't ask to wait for the coupon, she brought it up. I was misled...[/quote']

I did'nt mean to seem harsh, I do feel for you because the trust of a long standing relationship has been broken. I have yet to establish a relationship with a PVP because it seems they always quit somewhere between booking and sailing.

Perhaps your PVP misunderstood the nature of the coupon, maybe trust can be re-established.

Before I went to bed at 4am I checked and there were side by side cabins STILL available on her cruise in cat 4a , 6a, and 8a.

Hopefully she can get them to switch to one of them depending on what category she booked.

Are there any available cabins in the same category near one of the cabins you were assigned? If so, your PVP should be able to change you to the empty cabin. I was able to do so for my upcoming Glory cruise.

Ok, so here is my update.....just for the record, I booked 2 OV Guarantee Cabins. I spoke with my PVP, and was able to get our cabins moved down 1 level, and cabins are 12 rooms apart, but at least on same side of the ship. Apparantly that was the best she could do. I feel better about it, but still not happy about the way this was handled. If she had said to me in the beginning that the was a chance we would be far apart, I never would have booked a guarantee. I told her SEVERAL times that we needed to be close together, and was told not to worry, we do this all the time. Matter of fact, she was the one who talked me into the Gurantee cabins, I was ready to pick my own....Live and learn I guess!!!
