LBCABob Posted April 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Using the HAL website deck layout of the ms Amsterdam as a reference, I have not found much info on the following venues located on the Upper Promenade: Amstel Cafe Explorer's Lounge Ocean Bar Rembrandt Lounge Sports Bar I'm guessing they are all differently themed bars where one can enjoy one's favorite beverage, perhaps with live music. And although named a "cafe" there is no reference I have found indicating food is served at the Amstel Cafe. On the other hand, the Explorations Cafe is described as a "coffee house environment" so "cafe" seems applicable. Are my guesses about right? RuthC Posted April 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2008 The Amstel Cafe and the Rembrandt Lounge are both the Piano Lounge. The Amstel is the bar/smoking side and the Rembrandt is the open/non-smoking lounge section. There is no food, unless you count the nuts and hors d'oeurves at cocktail time. There is a dance floor. The Explorers Lounge is another cocktail area. There is classical music from stringed instruments played there in the later evening. The Ocean Bar is a popular drinking area with (usually) a trio playing dance music. The Explorations Cafe is the combination coffee bar/Internet center/library. The Sports Bar is another drinking area, with TV's set to the sports station. It is near the casino. I think that covers it for the Upper Promenade. There's also the Crow's Nest on a (higher) Sports deck. Another drinking emporium!
LBCABob Posted April 30, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted April 30, 2008 Ah... smoking -vs- non-smoking. Keep forgetting that. (California is all non-smoking pretty much everywhere.) Since we're all non-smokers in my group, we can pretty much cross the Amstel Cafe off our maps. Thanks!
