Passport: Leave in cabin safe or....

Take it with you whenever you leave the ship at a port of call? I can see the pros and cons of both. What do you do?

before you leave on your cruise make a few copies of the passport identification page and take that with you when you leave the ship. leave the real passport in the safe.

On some previous cruises they kept our passports when we checked in (returned at end of cruise), so we had no option. In the other cases, we were happy to leave the original in the cabin safe and always took a copy of the ID page ashore with us.

Don't take a chance of losing your passport while ashore. Keep it in your safe and bring a photo-copy ashore.

We made back to back color copies of the identification page, cut them to size and then had them laminated at an office supply store for about a dollar. We keep the original passports in the safe and the copies in our backpack. By laminating them we don't even have to worry that the ink on the copies to run if they come in contact with wet towels or bathing suits! :)

We always take a paper copy with us but leave the real passports inside the room's safe.;)

Scan your passports and then email them to yourself that way in case of an emergency you can go to an internet cafe, log into your email and then print out a copy of your passport.:)

I always leave the real passport in the safe. The risk of losing it ashore is much greater than the risk of missing the ship for some reason and its absence being a big problem.

This is a great idea...thanks for posting it. We intended to make copies to carry with us while ashore and leave the originals in the cabin safe. We'll still do that.

 

But....

 

Having the passports scanned and having them available to email is another level of protection if needed.
