My wife and 2 sons, 13 and 15 are first cruisers. I am looking for suggestion on activities the ports where we stop--Ketchikan, Jueneau, Skagway and Sitka. My sons want activities like salmon fishing, white water raftting and the like. Any suggestion on who to contact and what was fun are appreciated.

Are you going to Denali Park, there is where the better rafting is. Salmon fishing is excellent out of Ketchikan.

You need to do your homework on the ports and greatly narrow down your tour choices. There are hundreds of excellent tours. Look over a shore excursion list and repost.

Most of the ports where you will call in have visitors bureaus which list most of the real local things to do. These can be found with a search by putting in the port name and if that isn't specific enough, just say visitor in your search. In Skagway, it is called Skagway CVB. This should help you with your preplanning.

If you are already ashore and you have gotten past all of the ship sales, shore sales, etc., then you can also go to the National Park Service, here in Skagway, where they are required to be very unbiased in their advice on what there is to see and do while you are here! You may be pleasantly surprised to find out about all of the free activities which are available here, which are usually overlooked by all of the sellers in their zeal to get you prebooked before you have a chance to get a look at all of the things to do which are always available on any day that you are here!;)

Happy travels to you all! DD
