Major Fiber Trunk cut in Chicago - reason for slow Internet

Fiber for major sites like FaceBook, Google, MySpace, AOL and other majors are usually redundant. That means if fiber gets damaged coming from one source it can still keep on keeping on via a second feed. Diverse pathways just for scenarios like damage. But its possible that the site is older and belt and suspenders was not the approach, but it's really not kept that way with major players who know better.

My mind started to play tricks when I saw this thread.

A ripped up fibre trunk in Chicago! Oh No!!!!

Oh no, one of the redcaps in the Union station must be having a bad day. He tore someone's bag while unloading it from the baggage car on the New York Central 20th Century as the train was being unloaded. Then I thought, get with the times.......

Oh no, a porter at O'Hare must be having a bad day. He dropped someone's bag as it was being unloaded from a TWA SuperG Constellation. Then I thought, get real......

Oh no, this is 2008 and they want $15 to check this trunk. It weights more than 50 pounds and I haven't put anything in it. I'll cut it in half....... What, the second piece is another $25 and they are both over weight.

Never mind, it's a carryon bag.

Oh no, it won't fit under the seat!

Oh no, I just ripped it trying to get it into the overhead bin........

Oh no, what is that about an internet cable?
