mammie Posted May 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I have a choice between a 11:05am flight from Fort Lauderdale to Boston:confused: , or wait until a 3pm flight. We are cruising on the Splendor Jan. 24. One sounds early, and the other one could mean hours in the airport. thanks Mammie
jleq Posted May 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I'd choose 3pm. Cruises recommend flights no earlier than noon
firefly333 Posted May 22, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2008 If you are doing self disembark, chances are very good the earlier flight will be fine. We were to the airport in Ft. Lauderdale by 8 am :( and my flight wasnt until 12:30 pm and the earlier flights were sold out so I couldnt bump up on stand by because I didnt know about checking luggage on which flight. elaineb Posted May 22, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I'd chose 3pm and take an Everglades Tour! That's why we picked a 6:15pm flight. I always wanted to ride an airboat since I was a kid and watched Flipper!:D
ShedQueen77 Posted May 22, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I'd take the 3pm flight and just take your time getting off the ship. Plus, that will give you some time if you run into any disembarkation snags as well. They do happen.
Ehpride Posted May 22, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I'd pick the 3 p.m. and find something to do after you disembark. Why rush home when you've just had a relaxing vacation?
JDOUGLEJ Posted May 22, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2008 11:05 flight would be a crap shoot in my opinion. I hate waiting around airports but my experiences in Ft Lauderdale have been real slow process at the airport. Been almost 2 years since through there so maybe they have improved. I would be uncomfortable with flight before 1:00 coming off a cruise at any port. Cruise could be late docking, port authorities could be slow clearing ship, luggage hard to find (carrying off would eliminate this). But you get the picture-Lot of chances to cause missed flight, especially considering Homeland Security now.

DaveOKC Posted May 22, 2008 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I would go for the 3 PM. Why end your great re;axing vacation rushing or worrying to catch a flight? I had this happen to me once (some people on our ship even missed the flight) and vowed never to do it again - not worth it. DaveOKC
shark Fan Posted May 22, 2008 #10 Share Posted May 22, 2008 We had a choice of 12:00pm(noon) or 3:00pm. We picked the noon flight. When vacation is over I want to get home as soon as possible. Will find out soon if we made the right decision.
cardinalfan Posted May 22, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2008 I would take the earlier flight. It is an easy to navigate airport and is close to the pier. We were there by 8 am after a cruise and had to wait for a 5pm flight. Never again.
loveJake Posted May 22, 2008 #12 Share Posted May 22, 2008 We had a 11:45 flight in December and had plenty of time. We were coming back from a 10 day Princess on a Sunday and wanted to get home, had to go to work the next day. The first time we left from Ft. Lauderdale we had a 1pm flight, too much time waiting at the airport. This was a 3000 passenger ship with 7 ship in port that morning, about the worst conditions there could be and we were at the airport around 9. The only thing you would have to worry about is nyour ship not getting into port on time.
Tara&Jas Posted May 22, 2008 #13 Share Posted May 22, 2008 Eeep! We have a 1pm flight - I hope we can drag it out a bit so we don't have to sit in the airport for eons.
CruzVinnieCruz Posted May 22, 2008 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2008 The early flight will be fine. You are only fifteen minutes from the airport. That's one of the big reasons we love sailing out of Port Everglades.
Muumuu Posted May 22, 2008 #15 Share Posted May 22, 2008 This Jan daughter and I were on the Miracle and had an 1130 am flight out of FL. We did self VIP and were in the airport by 8 am and were in the air at 9 am. Home before our original flight at 1130 even took off.
nothomeonacruise Posted May 22, 2008 #16 Share Posted May 22, 2008 That's true about the airport being very close to the pier!! It's right there. I just hope you have no snags getting off the ship.
