Our last trip was a year ago April and we had the normal disembarkation on the Maasdam. We are going again in late November and are wondering if they have the new silent procedures or not. Have heard good and bad things about this new procedure and was curious.

It wasn't done as of Apr.14/08....wondering if it has changed since then.

Thanks for the reply. I just remembered, a cousin of mine is on her right now. I guess I'll just have to wait until she returns and find out from her. Will post her findings for you after she returns.

Can anyone explain what the Silent Disembarkation is? We were on the Maasdam in March and the disembarkation was called by groups according to what color and number you had on your luggage. Thanks!

Can anyone explain what the Silent Disembarkation is?

Here's how it works (at least in theory):

The ship is expected to dock, and go through various procedures at a given time. Passengers are given a letter listing out their disembarkation time based on arrival, and their on-going plans. That time is in a letter sent to their cabin, along with other disembarkation information.

The ship arrives, docking procedures are completed, and everyone picks up and leaves in accordance with the time on their letter. No announcements calling for tag numbers/colors to disembark are called out over the PA---leaving it blissfully quiet.

All that will work very well if the ship comes in on time, procedures are completed in a timely fashion, passengers pay their bills/go through Immigration, and leave when it's expected they will.

Any glitch in any one (or more) of the various points can make a mess.

:D David..... I think they will silently send the silent Security Officer to silenty escort you to the gangway. :) As long as it is silent, it won't hurt quite so much. ;)

was the most preferable of our 3 recent cruises. On Princess, we had to go to lounges and hold in what was the most painful and delayed and unpleasant of all. On the Amsterdam, we were called by groups over the loud speakers, which has us on edge waiting to be called. When we were called and left, we were quizzed as to whether our group had been called even though there was noone else waiting to get off. With silent disembarkation on the Oosterdam, we waited a half hour until after the process was first started with the initial PA, and walked off with no queues and minimal fuss with a pleasant goodbye from a few of the super pleasant crew.

It would be a real shame if it changes as silent disembarkation left the responsibility with the customer and it seemed all were relaxed and enjoyed the process.

:D :D :D
