LoveToTravelTwo Posted June 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2008 Does anyone know the time this train arrives in Seward? Check-in at the Marriott in downtown Anchorage is allowed anywhere from 8am to 11:30am, at which time you are told when it's your turn to board the train. Is it better to check-in early to get a good seat or doesn't that matter. If you do check-in early, must you stay at or on the train all morning waiting for everyone else? Also, is there food on the train or should we have lunch before boarding or bring lunch on board? Will we have time to go to the Sea Life Center in Seward before the final boarding deadline? Millennium leaves Seward at 9pm. Thanks!
GMoney Posted June 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2008 IME with the train, which is admittedly not with X, train seats were assigned. The food on the train has always been very good. Pricey, but worth it... :)
GlacierLady Posted June 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2008 Cruise contracted train arrives Seward at 6pm. Sealife Center closes at 7pm. Not much time at all. I suggest checking into taking the regular passenger train leaving Anc at 6:45am arriving in Seward at 11am for almost 1/2 the price on the same tracks. You'd then have plenty of time for the Sealife Center ( free with the train fare savings) and have time to enjoy the races and festivities that day. Train food is spendy. Budget Queen Posted June 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2008 I definately agree, consider ditching this cruise contracted train and get up early and get on the regular run. This allows you time for your last day interior Alaska, to see and do some fantastic touring. Seward is a gem, loaded with plenty. I suggest you ask yourself, how often you are going to be getting to Alaska and if a "down day" is something you want compared to making better use of your time. LoveToTravelTwo Posted June 11, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted June 11, 2008 Thanks for all of the replies. Sadly, the 6:45am train is totally booked. Another option would be to rent a van. However, with 6 adults plus all of the "cruise luggage", is it possible to find a large enough one? Then too is the issue of the extra "drop off" charge (Anchorage pick-up/Seward drop-off). Still don't know if we check in early, if we're required to stay at or on the train till it leaves. Would rather tour more of Anchorage instead. Thanks again! You might want to call Hertz directly and inquire about a van rental, there are also earlier independent scheduled bus runs. http://www.anchorage.net You would have some time before you have to check in for the train for Anchorage. But this timing is poor as not much time for either Anchorage or Seward.
