Cattravel10 Posted June 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2008 Just got my documents and are leaving in a week to Anchorage for our Regent cruise. I was under the impression that there is only one train station in Anchorage (downtown). However, according to the docs, we are supposed to catch the train at the Ted Stevens Int'l airport. We don't have transfers as we booked our own hotel. Does anyone know where this train depot is at the airport?? Thanks for your help.
GMoney Posted June 10, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2008 It's underneath the newer South Terminal.

There is a train "station" at the airport, but there are no train tracks. Perhaps you are just being staged at this area to meet for other transfer (bus?). The train 'station' is a nice large area and is accessed by a 'tunnel' walk on ground floor - take the escalators down after getting baggage. You are correct, to board the train, that is downtown. Chenega Posted June 11, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2008 The train depot at the airport is accessible from the C Concourse in the South Terminal. It is only used during the summer months as a transfer for cruise ship passengers directly to Seward or Whittier. After collecting your luggage, look for the signs that direct you to the terminal. You board these special cruise ship trains directly at the terminal; if you are staying in Anchorage, you'll probably transfer on a bus to a hotel. If you are taking the train to Denali, that train leaves from the downtown depot. FYI - should you be on an airline that uses the north terminal (e.g. Delta), you'll have to take a short bus transfer to the C concourse in the south terminal. Budget Queen Posted June 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 11, 2008 You will have to take a transfer, (however you got there, shuttle/cab) back to the airport for your train. However, you are paying a big surcharge to the cruiseline for this train. IF you are going to Seward, then I only recommend you cancel this and just book the regular run of the Alaska RR from downtown. A significant reason is for the ability to do some fantastic Seward activities. Big problem with the cruise trains, they leave too early out of Anchorage for much of anything and arrive too late in Seward for much of anything either. Depends how you want to use your time. Hate to correct you but there are train tracks at the airport train depot (was just there Saturday coming home from Vancouver). Only the trains contracted to the cruise lines use the depot there though. Susan in Anchorage :)
dwp381 Posted June 18, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2008 I was going to say the same thing-right acrosss the street from the airport. You can see it easily from the check-in counters upstairs.
Chenega Posted June 18, 2008 #8 Share Posted June 18, 2008 Right. Locals don't use it for any service other than an occasional off-season high school prom.
FritzG Posted June 18, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 18, 2008 The station is right down the hall in the same direction as the rental car desks.
AkSusan Posted June 18, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 18, 2008 The station is right down the hall in the same direction as the rental car desks. A little different now as the rental cars have moved out from the bottom floor of the airport terminal to their own offices in the Car Rental Facility which is connected to the airport via a tunnel.
