firefly333 Posted June 20, 2008 #76 Share Posted June 20, 2008 She is so fun and bubbly, you have to like here, the ship is leaving the dock now. she says she treated herself to a balcony, lol. She doesnt mention that means its a suite on this ship.
Gingee Posted June 20, 2008 #77 Share Posted June 20, 2008 Thanks for letting us know. We just turned it on. Even though we aren't going on that ship, it's exciting. Hey the carpet looks familiar.
DarthGrady Posted June 20, 2008 #78 Share Posted June 20, 2008 she says she treated herself to a balcony, lol. She doesnt mention that means its a suite on this ship. I think Sam was being a little modest, that was an Owners Suite! You have to be near celebrity status (or Tom-n-Cheryl :D ) to get one of those things. I got to go inside the one (the same one she was in) on my last Inspiration cruise, they are freakin huge!

Peaceful Posted June 20, 2008 #81 Share Posted June 20, 2008 Since I did not stay awake last night (although I really tried), I just looked up the Travel Channet Program Guide and found three other airings...June 26th at 11 a.m.; June 27th at 9 p.m.; and June 28th at 1 a.m. I left a reminder for myself from their website. SpacemanSpiff Posted June 20, 2008 #82 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I wonder how I can get a job like hers. To cruise and travel the world for free! Gee' date=' what a job!:)[/quote'] Beats the heck out of selling replacement windows! :p
LHP Posted June 20, 2008 #83 Share Posted June 20, 2008 Great show. The guy in the piano bar was Milby. We sailed with him on the Fantasy last year. We had a great time!
halos Posted June 20, 2008 #84 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I just thought of another thing that surprised me about Samantha's stay on the ship. Maybe others didn't think this was weird but I did...that she ate at the buffet the first night of the cruise..... I don't even know why I think it's weird LOL. Maybe because I can't imagine eating my dinner at the buffet (?) I also took note of people's attire on Elegant night and everyone looked pretty elegant. Didn't see anyone who looked like a slob. ;) But that lady in the pink Easter hat was a little...different. :p Anyone notice the large group of Red Hats (or purple hats?? Whatever they're called) They looked like they were having fun.
MississippiMom Posted June 20, 2008 #85 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I DVRd the show and watched it alone to see if our three kids might enjoy it. I was so disappointed. I love Samantha Brown and the show was only "okay" to me. I wanted it to be about the Inspiration, since we sail on her, soon, but it really was just about cruising. (She could have been on any ship, IMHO.) I'm pretty sure that I won't bother to show it to my children, because I did notice that it was definitely adult-focused. If our fourteen year old gets a look at any of the dining room scenes, she will flip out, since they never showed any teenagers (or children) there. (But they sure did show the Red Hat Ladies.) And I doubt that any of our three children would want to sit and watch the ice carvings, but they would have enjoy seeing on-deck parties, like the sail-away. And then the amount of time spent on the WaterWorks was less time than you see on some of their commercials. Oh, well, at least we only have fifteen days to go, until our Inspiration cruise.

Are you sure ? It looked like one of the obstructed view cat 11's on the Verandah deck to me, and not all that desirable. No privacy from the forward Lido deck outside walkway, and looking out to that lifeboat.
SpacemanSpiff Posted June 20, 2008 #87 Share Posted June 20, 2008 Anyone notice the large group of Red Hats (or purple hats?? Whatever they're called) They looked like they were having fun. I presumed it was a group of "Red Hat Society" ladies right from the get-go, out enjoying a weekend cruise. http://www.redhatsociety.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hat_Society Definitely a distinctive and colorful bunch! LOL...thanks, I know about the society...sailed with a group on an NCL ship. They literally wore purple and red THE ENTIRE CRUISE. It was cute in the beginning but this was a 15 day cruise. It got real old after a while. ;)

I dont think anyone who hasnt cruised would be running to sail on Carnival based on this show. Most that havent cruise might even assume that this ship represents the best Carnival has to offer. It will be interesting to see if they allow her to do another show on Splendor or Dream. I did find it interesting that they focused on all the guest wanting to take her picture, I have never noticed that on her Royal shows. I wonder how much control does Carnival have on the final cut? Maybe the guests on Royal Caribbean didn't care to have their photo taken with her? I didn't get the impression that she was bored or forcing things. But it did occur to me that she was presenting an experience somewhat different than the majority of cruisers will get (i.e., dining with the Captain at his table, being allowed to "sculpt" part of the ice sculpture, making rosettes in the galley). I still liked it, though. I got a chuckle out of her assessment of the Captain's Cocktail Party....(paraphrasing) "I said hello to a couple of people and then I'm here thinking 'Oh, was that the Captain?'" Calker Posted June 20, 2008 #92 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I forced my husband (who started his mini-vacation yesterday) to stay awake to watch this program. Both of us agreed - if we had seen this program before our first cruise it would not have "sold" us on a cruise. The host did not appear to be enjoying herself, everything seemed forced. What happened to the deck parties, dancing, shows, etc?
cjkumbaya Posted June 20, 2008 #93 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I thought it was a pretty good show and that they represented the ship in a good light even though it looked to me like they glossed over most things. As someone else mentioned I did think it was odd that she ate her first evening meal at the Lido. If they wanted to show the buffet they could have had her eating lunch there or breakfast. I would too would like to have her job (at lease for a year or two).:D
ellenmb Posted June 20, 2008 #94 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I am so glad I am not the only one who felt Sam was forced...I felt bad that I felt that way because I have always enjoyed her other shows...I have to agree that if I had never cruised Carnival, I do not think this would have helped matters (or inspired me to cruise Carnival)....I had been waiting for a good Carnival travel show...this wasn't it...bummer (I will still look at it again, to get glimpses, but I hope she does another one on another ship)

MississippiMom Posted June 20, 2008 #96 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I would go so far as saying compared to her other cruise shows, see seemed bored and forcing things. I dont think anyone who hasnt cruised would be running to sail on Carnival based on this show. Most that havent cruise might even assume that this ship represents the best Carnival has to offer. I had completely forgotten, until I read your post, that I recently saw parts of Samantha Brown's RCCL ship (sorry, I can't remember which one - Freedom??) TV program, and, she definitely seemed to showcase the ship and the activities more. I seem to recall her on the Flowrider and an ice skating rink. I know that the Inspiration doesn't have those kind of activities, but it seems like they spent too much time on some things - like the casinos and the picture taking at the Gala buffet - and no time at all on other things like the dancing waiters or the disco or the silly pool-side contests. I did find it interesting that they focused on all the guest wanting to take her picture, I have never noticed that on her Royal shows. "Interesting" is not the word that I would have chosen. I found it quite annoying. And I was really bothered by her acting surprised about it, and making comments about how she would need to stay sober and couldn't get drunk (paraphrasing). Samantha Brown's "Disney Favorites" show has also been on, recently, and I don't recall her constantly showing people getting excited about seeing her. I was expecting last night's Inspiration show to be more like that one, where Samantha does show us her "favorite" things to do on the ship, and it makes us want to be there and experience it too. If I were the Carnival PR person that worked with The Travel Channel for this show, I'd be really P.O.d.
Giggles2007 Posted June 20, 2008 #97 Share Posted June 20, 2008 I agree with the OP that I thought the program was going to be more about Samantha on the ship. Like it was previously said, she could have been on any ship. I did enjoy some parts and I had the kids watching because they will be going on their first cruise in April. But they quickly lost interest. As to eating her first meal at the buffet, I have to admit that I have done that once. I usually check out what's being served in the dining room and at that point I am usually ready to unpack and relax.

To us it just showed how friendly the people were on Carnival. And the staying sober part just cracked us up.:D Sense of humor people;) Let's not forget it was a 4 day cruise alot different then a 7 day.
