Samantha Brown and Carnival thursday

Hi ! I came over from the RCCL boards to see what you guys thought about the show.:o

again....just wanted to tell the Carnival fans....SB didn't portray your ship as very fun or nice.

I know it was a "weekends" show, but for me it was about cruising....and I enjoy seeing other ships so I can consider them for the future....

People new to Carnival are going to run the other way. It was just disappointing and boring.:( ;)

but thanks to those who posted to stand up for their ship and agree that she portrayed it badly;)

Hubby and I have always enjoyed Samantha Brown's shows, but something seemed off, in our opinions. Tired, bored, not editted well, just done too many cruise shows, or something.

but you know she has only done a handful of cruise shows...3 that I know of....Europe on RCCL, Freedom, and now Carnival.

and....she has done tons of Great Hotels and other shows....yet she was never bored or odd in those....it's just odd

and I think perhaps....terrible editing:)

I was a little disappointed in the show, but I think it's because I set my expectations a little too high...the main problem I had with it was I guess related to editing in that too much time was spent on certain areas that didn't really highlight the cruise experience or the ship itself...an example is the amount of footage spent in the casino--there was nothing special about that; we all know what a casino is like, and you couldn't tell if she was in a casino in Vegas, Atlantic City or the Gulf Coast...also, a little too much time was spent on the ice sculpture process

Not sure what the point of this post is. "Again"? You wanted to tell us again? rofl Okay..thanks for that? Also...I do find it funny that you said, "your" ship. It is everyone's ship who wants to sail her. There is no need to have division. Yes, this is the Carnival board, but why come and try to make this out like it is some competition? Yes, that happens naturally for those who are diehard fans for both cruiselines, but I just am a bit miffed as to why you want to post "again" and say it "again". Also, your post has an air of finality to it, as if you are stating facts. What you are stating is your opinion of the show. Nothing more. And...I guess...thanks for stating it..."again".

I know that the Inspiration doesn't have those kind of activities, but it seems like they spent too much time on some things - like the casinos and the picture taking at the Gala buffet - and no time at all on other things like the dancing waiters or the disco or the silly pool-side contests.

Just a thought here, but maybe they didn't show those things (like the pool-side contests and such) because Carnival wants to rid itself of the "party" image? I read in another thread that Carnival's PR is changing the way it presents itself...???

Maybe that's why...

You're absolutely right, I was. It was late and I was tired and, after I did some reading of other posts, I came back to delete it, but the window had passed for me to edit it and the edit feature was gone. That being said, I just get a little tired of the "yours" and "ours" thing (especially those that make a point to post those points over again) and hit me at the wrong time and I snapped.

I apologize Minnie.

SB a diva, now come on.....she's a geek!! She gives nerdy a new name:D I've seen her on other types of shows and also on commercials and I still don't like her......Carnival should have chosen a better hostess for the show, the ship was great though!:) As Mach would say, "it's just my 2 cents."

We watch SB's shows often and were looking forward to seeing a Carnival ship featured.

We also were dissapointed with the show. She did not seem herself, she was a bit more "snarky" (as someone mentioned above) than usual. The show was just off. Also, we keep seeing her in a new commercial for her weekend show and she also does not seem her happy, goofy self. You know the one, the guys are aluminum foiling her office...

Comparing this show to the shows on the FOS, the show was a let down. I don't think the show did the ship justice at all. I don't think the show highlighted Carnival's best features, either. All in all a dissapointment.

I didn't find her to be a diva at all on this show. I actually liked the show and I like Samantha's fun loving style, maybe she was a bit more snarky on this show because it was supposed to be "her" time to relax instead of being a travel guide for the show, maybe that contributed to the different feel.

Isn't this a different show altogether than the ones that she has done on other cruise ships, a different format? Were her shows on other ships a different show completely, like "Great Cruises" or something similar, wasn't this show called "Passport to Great Weekends"? Wouldn't that explain the different vibe of the show?

My only problem with the show was, too many giggling Red Hat women, I would have to throw at least one of them over board!:D

I thought the ship looked great, a real glitzy vegas type vibe, looks like fun!

MAC

Yep. Exactly!

I guess she can't have her own vacation show:rolleyes: :D :)

The Inspiration did look awesome in the show, you guys on the right coast are lucky to have a nice ship.

The Paradise is going into Dry Dock in December. I will be on her when she comes out. I'm hoping that they put the "Evolutions of Fun" on her while she's in dry dock.

Carnival should have chosen a better hostess for the show

keep in mind that it was not Carnival's show...it was Samantha Brown's show...although it may have been interpreted as some type of infomercial, it was the first show of a new Samantha Brown series about weekend getaways

The show showed you can get away for a fun weekend on a cruise! We loved the show and laughed all the way through. I guess we get her humor. Come on...haven't any of you thought it odd how everyone goes to "look" at food? I have many pictures of the Gala Buffets, but I still think it is weird.

I think she needed to break away from the snorkelers, how else could she fit all she wanted to fit in about Cozumel? I am smart enough to know she got special treatment by the tour operator because they were shooting a TV show, can't anyone else just take it for that? Oh yeah, and the shot where she was looking at the two ships...I have to watch it again but we thought it was because she showed up at the wrong port...very easy to do in Cozumel.

Maybe the reason they didn't show her cabin is because they didn't want anyone to think the suite was normal. I agree, it would have been better to see her in a "normal" cabin to give people an idea of what it really is like but that ships cabins are not as nice as their Conquest Class, can't blame Carnival for not wanting to show them. The show and cruise are about a WEEKEND, not a ship.

As for her comments about people taking her picture...I think she was just a little uncomfortable because she was there to shoot a show, and maybe a little surprised she is more well known than she was on her other cruises. She was gracious enough to take time out of the shooting schedule to pose with people anyway. JMOHO

I'm a Samantha Brown fan and I'm a Carnival fan, so believe me when I say that I appreciate both. But, as others have said, I was disappointed in the tone of this one.

SB usually treats the object of her show, the destination and the fellow travellers with such respect and reverence that it was truly surprising to me to see her bring the snark when referring to the lineup to meet the captain and the crowds that take excursions and the people who love buffets and the nameless officers at her table and the tour guides who clearly let her do her own thing. It was out of character.

I felt better about her attitude after reading her blog post upthread, but I'd love to know what Carnival's PR department thought of the end result. In fact, the sunny Carnival commercials that ran during the breaks provided a much-welcome counterpoint to the featured program.

SB usually loves everything she does; that's why she's fun to watch. But this time, she clearly didn't love it all, and it was a surprising thing to see if you're accustomed to watching her usually joyful programs.

It was my understanding that the purpose of the show was a "weekend getaway" nothing more nothing less and for that it fit the bill.

I was on the Inspiration with Samantha and the crew and the show did not do her or the crew justice.

My SO and I can be seen in the show on the serenity deck, too funny.

I didn't expect the show to be an overview of Carnival or the ship, just a weekend getaway.

I'd like to see how they actually did the filming of her going down the slide, I did it and it was a killer!

We all don't know what went on behind the scenes between Carnival and the Travel Channel so I'm sure their decisions outweighed Samantha's decisions.

We also saw her and crew driving on the east side of the island as we had rented a car and were over there as well, however when we saw them they were in Jeeps not dune buggies!

All in all it was a fair show for a weekend getaway and we love sailing Carnival.

Susan,

You're famous now! I am proud to have been on the same sailing! I have not seen her show yet, so don't know if Randall and I made it into the show!

Anyone that truely wants to get away and relax for a weekend should not have cameras following them around..

I think she could have put on a better game face

Yeah you are right. She should have left the cameras at home:rolleyes:

What was she thinking:confused:

I tell ya Fred, you guys on the Left coast have it pretty good too, you have the two newest Fantasy class ships. Paradise was really nice inside! The interior was the best of any of the Fantasy class ships I have been on. From what I have seen of Elation, she looks just as good. Its almost like Farcus started taking heavy ammounts of Valium between Inspiration and Elation, only minor traces of neon and glitz. Once they get the EOF upgrades, they will be awesome!

As I said earlier tonight, I have not seen the show on "TV" yet, but, we were on the Inspiration when Samantha Brown was on there taping, we did not see a diva, but a really nice person. She was friendly and genuinely nice. I did see lots of people waving to us as we left port....Maybe her crews just did not focus the cameras right?

The Inspiration is a nice ship and we had a wonderful time. We will go back on her again.

The reason Samantha Brown's cruise show seem so different from her other shows is that it is produced by a completely different production company. Pineridge Film did all her previous series including the Emmy award winning Passport to Europe.

Her new Weekend show is producded by Optomen Productions. Many of the staff list BBC in their resumes. I have noticed that shows from the UK have a different sense of humor that you either get - and love - or don't get. I sure hope this doesn't mean that the Samantha Brown that we know and love is gone forever. It sure explains why the show felt so different.

Re: the parts of the show where Samantha had to stop and pose for pictures: usually she's filming in foreign countries and residents there have no idea who she is so she probably isn't used to being mobbed. It's weird they would have included that in the show though.

The part that really set me off was the introductions of the crew around the dinner table. She got through the first couple and then for the rest said "I don't remember who they are or what they do" Doesn't she have assistants who take care of those details. Couldn't they have called Carnival contacts to get those names? Lame:(

Next week's show in Las Vegas where "she unleashes her inner sexy with the Pussy Cat Dolls"  should be interesting:confused:

Kurb .. it can't be both ways, it's either a TV show about a weekend getaway.. or its SB wanting a much deserved vaca;)

I am glad to hear that Carnival is finally getting some TV time too. I just wish that they could have chosen a more modern ship. Everytime that RCI is on they are showing the latest and greatest. Either way, good for Carnival.

Of course she can.

I just don't see the appeal of a show about SB...on a Travel Channel.

It's great that you enjoyed the show. But not everyone feels the same about it. Enough people think it cast CCL in a bad light and I would think this is not what CCL is looking for.
