Canal Boat Ride with Alla in St. Petersburg

Recommended Posts

Alla is offering canal boat cruise (at an additional expense) following the day of touring. This is different than the hydrofoil trip already included. Has anyone on this Baltic forum taken this canal cruise before heading back to the ship? How long was the ride? Was it worthwhile? We will have our two children (10 & 13) with us and wonder if it will be too much following a day touring the city and museums.

Thanks!

I don't know a thing about the Alla canal tour. I was on the DenRus 2 Day Value Excusrion and a canal cruise was an included/integral part of the 2 day tour. It was splendid. About an hour, plus. Different side to see of all major sites. Probably the "planned" FRONT side. SPB was actually designed & built to front the canals.......so, in my mind, at least, a canal tour would be a "must do." Probably why DenRus included in the 2 day tour?

I'd do it even if extra if you can.

We took the canal tour with Alla a few weeks ago and it was the highlight of the trip! The views were spectacular. It took about an hour. We did the tour at lunchtime and the members of our group brought food from the ship for lunch and ate while we were on the boat. It was highly worthwhile and was a nice break from the crowds and the walking.

We are touring with Allas in early August and we chose to do the canal trip due to others recommendations. It is approx 1 hr per Alla and they are adding it to the end of our first day of touring, when others are returning to the ship. You pay to keep the car available for you and then it will return you to the ship after the ride.

From our canal cruise, some of us returned to the ship and others of us went to the Folkloric Show at the Nicholevsky Palace. It was well worth extending our long day to see it. There were enough of us from the various tours groups that Alla had that day, that she had a van waiting for us when we got out.

Don't bother to get the added 'buffet,' it is not really worth it (and it is very confusing) but you do need to get some sort of snack/supper before the show --because otherwise it makes for a long time between lunch and eating when you return to the ship.
