margbem Posted July 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2008 We were disappointed on HAL with their library - the books were all locked away so it was hard to get a book to read. Because we can't take much luggage with us when we go on Splendour out of Venice we would like to use the library. Anyone used it and what did you think? cb at sea Posted July 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2008 There have never been many books on any of the ships I've sailed (Splendor isn't one, though)-bring a few paperbacks--they don't weigh much, and you'll have something that you KNOW you will enjoy, just in case there isn't much to choose from. cruisegirl1 Posted July 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2008 Well it is not a full library but I’ve never had any problem finding something to read for the week. Is sure beats lugging books. I prefer a hard cover book but will bring a paperback Sudoko book just in case. Enjoy M
heatherb1958 Posted July 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2008 The library on Splendour is much larger than the ones on radiance class ships if you have experienced that class of ship. We board Splendour on Friday and as we are travelling with Ryanair are not bothering to pack any books :D .
DonnaK Posted July 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2008 The books in RCI libraries are not locked up. It's an honor system. You'll also find a shelf or two dedicated to books people left behind after reading them - sort of a bookswapping shelf.
margbem Posted July 8, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted July 8, 2008 Thanks everyone - I think we'll risk only taking one to read on the plane, then use the library.

My husband and I always take paperback books with us on the cruise and then leave them in the ship's library for anyone to read on that ship's future cruises. leoandhugh Posted July 8, 2008 #9 Share Posted July 8, 2008 For anyone who is disappointed with the libraries on HAL, they will be even more disappointed on RCI. Even though HAL may lock the bookcases(the hours when they are open and a responsible person present are posted daily in the ships bulletin) the scope and selection of books far exceeds those of any of the many RCI ships I have sailed. I never cruise RCI without taking 2 or more paperbacks:)
