Sailing on the Sun Princess in October from Sydney.

Does anyone know if our account will be in Australian or US Dollars (US Dollars previously on Sapphire.)

Also, can Aussie dollars and coins be used in Lifou, Suva, Draveuni, Isle of Pines and/or Vila?

Aussie dollars onboard Sun Princess. Aussie dollars were accepted in Lifou & IOP. Have not been to the others. If you want to buy anything on IOP, it is expensive.

Hi Joll

We have just come back from Port Vila and Aussie Dollars are widely accepted there, just make sure you have some gold coins for the bus ride into town and some smaller notes for the stalls and shops. It cost $AU 3.00 each on a bus into town or negotiate a price in a taxi if there are a few of you. Visa and M/card are accepted in all the dutyfree stores. Vila is by far the cheapest dutyfree I have seen anywhere. (FUNG KUEI Duty Free - last store on left opposite Olympic Hotel. Lini Hwy, Port Vila). If you want some Vatu money just use the ATMs in town (ANZ & Westpac).

As for your account on board I am sure somewhere on here I have seen that it will be in AU$ not US$....if not, someone on here will know for sure

Hi Joll,

The shipboard account will be in Aussie dollars. There is not much to spend money on in Lifou, Dravuni Island or Isle of Pines, however they do accept Aussie dollars. In Suva we used Aussie dollars with no problem at all. This was in the shops and with a taxi. Vila virtually runs a dual currency when a ship is in port. We noticed that some shops even had two money drawers and gave us our change in Australian dollars. Everything in the markets is marked in an even number of dollars and if you don't have enough change, they will have it. They all prefer notes to coins because they cannot bank coins. You will probably find people asking you if you can change a hand-full of $1 and $2 coins for a note. :):)

Have a great cruise.:D
