Northern lights ???

Has anyone seen the norhtern light show on their Alaska cruise from Vancouver ???

I have never seen them and would love to on our Alaska cruise this August. Someone posted something about this being a bad year for aurora, but I don't know if that is true.

It's not so much a bad year but there is simply too much daylight during the summer months to see them even if they are active.

Actually it is a combination of both......but never say never.

Well, you can see fairly decent multimedia shows in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and the hotel area of Denali National Park.

My cruise has sunsets at about 8:30 pm is there a chance we will see it on the cruise? I'll stay up late if there is a chance wish we were doing Danali but can't do to work issues. So it is cruise only for us.

click on #5, plan ahead and look at north of 60° (about the latitude of sitka)

magic 8-ball says "North of 60° latitude, aurora viewing very limited May 15 through August 1. The auroral index should be 3 or more to see it south of this latitude."

 

it's also usually too light or too overcast during the summer. ain't that a bitch?
