Marriott Stelaris vs. Intercontinental

We are currently booked at the Marriott but a friend of mine said it's very secluded and there's nothing around it. Which really isn't a big deal to us except when my hubby wants a midnight snack and likes to have something like a Subway or something like that around.

Does anyone know if there's anything in the area of the Marriott? Or would the Intercontinental be a better fit?

We'll be in San Juan for two nights before our cruise.

We're also booked at the Marriott for our upcoming cruise in January. In my opinion it is the nicest of the 4 resorts in San Juan. Recently renovated rooms and comfy beds; I also heard the service there is excellent. There are tons of restaurants in the area whether for dining or a late night snack; also easily accessible to OSJ as there is a bus stop nearby just in case you don't have access to a car. If I were you I'd stick with the Marriott; you'll be glad you did.

Your DH can always go down to the lobby casino where they serve free drinks, mini sandwiches and noshes. They are always walking around with trays of stuff to eat.

The Marriott is in Condado and is right in the center of everything.

The Intercontinental is in Isla Verde - and a short walk to everything.

But the two areas are several miles from each other.

Isla Verde is out near the airport.

Condado is half way between the airport and Old San Juan.

Your friend is probably thinking of the Courtyard by Marriott in Isla Verde which is at the end of the beach and rather remote from other businesses.

Thanks everyone. I think we will stick with the Marriott. :)

I've stayed in the Condado area before and liked the area. Only visited Isla Verde. He wasn't thinking of the Marriott on Isla Verde, maybe something else. he got married in San Juan and seems to remember considering the Marriott on Ashford for the wedding. Maybe he's confused.

  • 2 weeks later...

My fiance and I were looking at this hotel for a pre & post cruise stay.

Since we probably won't have any beach days while out touring the islands on our cruise (prefer shore excursions that include the historical and eco aspect), we wanted a few days of relaxing on the beach to cap our vacation.

The hotel looks great, but in all the pictures I see, the waves look extremely rough, almost like it is unswimable.

For only about $20 more per person, we can extend our flight arrangements out to St Croix (don't understand how it's so cheap to do this), and fly over there for a few days. Only downside to this is we lose a day in transit.

We'd really like to stay on Puerto Rico, but desperately want a nice, relaxing beach.

Opinions appreciated!

I have been checking things out on Priceline for January 22-24th and most bids for any star hotel were almost as high as the resorts. The resorts are much nicer in my opinion. I won the Marriott Stellaris for $165.00 a night plus fees. Debbie

I just got back from a 2-night post cruise stay at the Marriott Stellaris and was grossly underwhelmed. Our room was pretty small, and on our second day (our only full day there), it wasn't made up until almost 4pm after 2 phone calls to the front desk. Food prices at the restaurants in the hotel were ridiculous - $25 for a lunch buffet! Luckily we got a decent deal on Priceline, otherwise I would have been furious. There is a Starbucks and a cute cafe place for lunch across the street, which was a very good thing.

After going to dinner at the Caribe Hilton during our visit (and having stayed there about 10 years ago), we will stay there when we return to SJ.
