TIA Tia..........make sure that whatever beach you are at.......the bars that are serving drinks are making their drinks with purified water. Years ago........4 of us were sitting at a local restaurant that specialized in jerk chicken........and the guys ordered rum and cokes. We watched the bartender chip ice from a frozen block. We didn't ask if the ice was pruified......which it was not..........and we paid dearly later that day!! Rick
trvlbug08 Posted July 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2008 We were in OR this past January and we purchased a day pass at the RIU hotel. The cost was $80 pp. This hotel is absolutely beautiful. The beach is wide with white sand and beautiful shades of blue water. Very clear. The pass included use of all of the facilities and all food and drinks. It is a breathtaking property. Drinks as well as food were very good. There is a jerk shack right on the beach and the chicken is delicious. We liked it so much we are planning to return and stay for a week. You can check out the property at the hotel's website. You won't be disappointed. On a previous stay in Jamaica we went to Mahogany beach and were disappointed. I agree that the RIU is nice but you can purchase a day pass at most of the all-inclusive resorts, i.e Sandals,Sunset Jamaica Grande, etc
jackdiamond Posted July 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2008 We have only been to this place twice; and, we were not pleased by the beaches. However, we did not purchase a day pass as some of you have suggested; hence, that might be your best bet.
39august Posted July 20, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2008 If you have not been to Ocho before, please consider doing a Dunn's River Falls excursion. It is breathtaking. This is a beautiful island, but the beaches near Ocho Rios are not outstanding. There is a nice small beach at the bottom of Dunn's River Falls. And if you don't care to climb all the way, there are places to get out and walk up.
