Amtrak in New Orleans

I tried search and the feature is down. Thinking of taking Amtrak to New Orleans pre-cruise. Anyone know how close it is to the port?

I did a mapquest and it looked like the port of NO was not far. You could put in both the Port of NO and the Amtrak station location to get an idea.

We do Amtrak all the time but have not been to NO yet. Good Luck.

We've used the port, and have been by the Amtrak station. Fifteen minutes, tops, for a cab to the port.

However, your Amtrak trip may take longer than scheduled. Amtrak long distance trains can, at times, have long delays. They don't travel on their own tracks on your routing. They travel on freight railways tracks, and are subject to delays imposed by the freight railways. Your plan to travel by rail is fine. But we would suggest arrive a day earlier, find a nice hotel, enjoy NOLA for a day, then board the ship.

Have a great time!

Thanks for info. We are planning on arriving the afternoon before sailing and the train going home leaves at 1:45 pm the day we debark. Schedule works out perfectly. Now if we can get our bosses to approve the time off... we can book.

Thanks

  • 3 months later...
what would be the best and closest hotel to train station?

you don't want to stay near the station....it's not in the best part of town...not bad, but not great. pick something in the french quarter or canal street (lots of marriott-branded hotels...PLUS there are a couple near the convention center...you could almost WALK from those to the pier if you didn't have tons of stuff.....)
