annie m Posted July 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2008 We were on the Dawn sailing in May and received complimentary drinks in the Casino while playing with our Casino at Sea cards. We were told that this was part of Free Style 2.0. I've been reading the reviews of the last Dawn sailing and two posters have stated that this was not the case on the sailing. Is this now discontinued? If it has been - too bad it was a great perk.

salty dingo Posted July 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2008 On Majesty in May, there were free-flowing rum punch cocktails being handed out right after sailaway. Boy were they potent! But no, there are no free drinks like there are in shoreside casinos for players during the cruise. If you are a high roller and get noticed by the pit boss, you can probably score some free drinks, but that is not the norm.
WonderMan3 Posted July 28, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I am so confused about this. It seems like every week this policy changes depending on the ship. There was someone here who posted the Freestyle Dailys for the Jade recently and they had free drinks in the casino all the time and were trumpeting it loudly in the Dailys. Now they didn't have the free drinks on my Dream cruise a few weeks ago but I figured that was because the ship is leaving the fleet and isn't getting a lot of the newer perks. Now The Dawn seems to have dropped the free drinks. I mean this isn't some crisis here of course, honestly I rarely have a drink while gambling anyway (but my friends do), but it just gets very confusing to keep up with these policies that seem to change as often as the wind. Rare ohioNCLcruiser Posted July 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2008 On the Jade and Dawn this year they had free drinks to Casino at seas members (free to sign up) for several hours at night. It was great!
AFAMILY Posted July 28, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 28, 2008 On our cruise in May there were free drinks to Casinos at Sea players as long as you were actually playing. We play only slots and unless you were seated and playing a machine, no drink. I don't recall there being any specific hours this was offered. Anytime we were in the casino, which was usually later in the evening, the drinks were offered.
Rare ohioNCLcruiser Posted July 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I also meant to say they had this going on during the Monte Carlo night party.
salty dingo Posted July 28, 2008 #9 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I recommend walking through the casino after you board and checking out all the specials. If there is a party or some free drinks there may be a sign letting you know. While the casino is closed before you sail, it is staffed with people who can sign you up for tournaments, sell you triple-play chips, and answer your questions. bandt Posted July 28, 2008 #11 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Hi Was on the Gem Western Med earlier this month. Signed up for the Casino at Seas Card. On the sheet showing the advantages of the card the line showing free drinks while playing at the casino had been blanked out. No free drinks were available. Hope this helps
mew1 Posted July 28, 2008 #12 Share Posted July 28, 2008 On the Jade and Dawn this year they had free drinks to Casino at seas members (free to sign up) for several hours at night. It was great! ohio, are you back working with NCL, I had planned on meeting you but your tour had ended with POA the week I was boarding, and we could not connect. You added a lot to these boards, wow the Jewel looks great lit up. I was on her twice. mew1
Lyman713 Posted July 28, 2008 #13 Share Posted July 28, 2008 There were free drinks in the casino at all times for players having a player's card on the Majesty during the last week of May. The servers in the casino were great and one remembered me day to day and kept the drinks coming! Hope they continue this perk!
Tideone Posted July 28, 2008 #14 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I signed up for a casino at sea card on our july 6 sailing on the dawn and asked about the free drinks. The girl just laughed and said there were no more free drinks. I could not get a reason for the change of policy from anyone in the casino. TravelLisa Posted July 28, 2008 #15 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I just got off the 7/20 sailing on the Dawn, and their were absolutely NO FREE DRINKS in the casino. If they had this program..its now gone.
flashdog_1 Posted July 28, 2008 #16 Share Posted July 28, 2008 On Majesty's April 19th sailing you got a free drink for each line of lotto tickets you filled out ($10) so we got a couple there since my husband loves lotto (but no one won the big jackpot, unfortunately). See Monalisa if no one else knows about this. She was great.
Evilmille Posted July 28, 2008 #17 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Wow. I was on the Dawn in June and there were free drinks with the casino card. I can't believe they got rid of it so quickly. Too bad. It was a great perk.
Rapture24 Posted July 28, 2008 #18 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I'm not trying to sound like a bummer, but man- it seems more perks get taken away than given!
Coll101 Posted July 28, 2008 #19 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I called the casino department to verify this & I was told the following: There are NOT free drinks just for signing up for the casino players card, however, if you have booked your reservation through the casino, then you will still receive your free drink card while playing in the casino. Like for us, we always book through the casino & always have our players cards & free drink cards in our staterooms when we arrive. Hope this helps:)
Toyz711 Posted July 28, 2008 #20 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I'm not trying to sound like a bummer, but man- it seems more perks get taken away than given! this perk is one that just showed up in the last couple of months...it looks like it was a "test" market more then a "perk". they can't take away something i never had...and we spend a LOT of time in the casino, especially the last cruise. only got a comped drink 3 or 4 times for the whole week. JrzyCrzy Posted July 28, 2008 #21 Share Posted July 28, 2008 I too was on the Dawn in June and received complementary drinks while I played the slots. I probably wouldn't have played as much if they didn't offer the drinks. I'm going again in October, so I guess I won't be in the casino. Oh well...it was nice while it lasted. MrLee Posted July 28, 2008 #23 Share Posted July 28, 2008 Which Casino do you book through? NCL has their own program called "Casinos at Sea". They can be reached through the NCL site.
annie m Posted July 28, 2008 Author #24 Share Posted July 28, 2008 It was a nice perk - we spent more time in the casino this last trip than we had previously. I did book our upcoming Spirit cruise through Casino at Sea. I'm just surprised that they would have something like this and then just stop it a couple of months later. If it was a test - maybe they will bring it back.
Toyz711 Posted July 28, 2008 #25 Share Posted July 28, 2008 i am surprised it lasted this long...though i was hoping it would last longer. the ships don't make money on the cost of the cabins, they make money on the drinks and other extras.
