Greece and strollers

We will be sailing to the Eastern Mediterranean with a 17 month and 3.5 year old and was wondering if anybody has been to Santorini, Mykonos, Athens. I heard that there are alot of steps and uneven ground in those ports, would it be advisable to bring a double stroller to those places. Any suggestions?

Lots of cobblestones at the historic sights. Santorini is a tender port and you would most likely be taking the funicular up from the dock to Fira...Don't think a double stroller would be a good idea. Are you talking of dside by side or seats front and back? EM

Not only would a side by side not work well in the narrow alleys and streets of the greek islands, it will not fit through the door to your cabin on the ship and it will be too wide to maneuver in the hallways by the cabins.

I would suggest two umbrella type strollers - they fold up nicely and travel rough terrain well. Your older child will probably want to walk much of the time so why have an unwieldy stroller when it isn't needed? You really cannot manueover well in Greece with a big stroller and the walkways are quite narrow and uneven. Go with the less is more philosophy.

Hi mistymulan. We are in Europe now with a 5 and 6 year old. We visited Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens on our HAL cruise. We brought Maclaren umbrella strollers with us even though our children do not normally use a stroller. The strollers have been a life saver during our stay in Paris and currently while in Nice. While we were in Greece, we did not use them. We had a driver/ guide in Athens and the kids stayed on the ship in Santorini and Mykonos. I would say that using strollers in Santorini would be difficult, Athens would be doable if you planned to do just the Plaka and Agora areas, and Mykonos doable if you planned to do just the waterfront area and shops around little Venice/ windmills. The Maclaren strollers seem to be the ones used by most of the Europeans- light weight and they fit along the narrow side walks. They do fairly well on uneven ground. Have a great trip!
