*Mach* Posted July 31, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2008 I know it all depends on the size ship and iten...... How many peeps on board or % do you think is Platinum ?? About ten percent are Platinum according to John Heald...
okgirl Posted July 31, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2008 I would guess something less than 10%. I put it down so low because there has rarely been more than 30 or so other passengers in the VIP lounge or other places where we've been asked to congregate for special handling. AdrenalineRush Posted July 31, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2008 About ten percent are Platinum according to John Heald... That number seems really high since that would mean 2-300 on some ships. I know about 45-50 % of all pax on a given ship are first time cruisers with Carnival.
yst347 Posted July 31, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2008 I'll bow to John Heald's expertise but it may be due to the attraction of the newest ship which he typically hosts. If the list at the casino cage is to be believed, our cruises have been running 2% to 5% platinum.

dotshub Posted July 31, 2008 #9 Share Posted July 31, 2008 We were on the Victory to Canada this June and saw the list, was only about 15 people on it. Im sure it varies with the ship, itinerary, and time of year too.

Perhaps so... however he mentioned that there were 277 Platinum cruisers on board the Splendor, which he said was typical across the line... crusinpsychRN Posted July 31, 2008 #11 Share Posted July 31, 2008 You know, I have to blame you folks who bring this up all the time for me trying so hard to get to platinum. You had better take up a collection to get me just a few more or STOP bringing this up! What's the first thing I do? Check out a 4 day cruise. Now STOP IT! Boy, how I want that free laundry! :)

Julienatul Posted July 31, 2008 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2008 on out last two cruises there were only 10-15 of us. They announced it at the past guest parties that there were only that many on board who were platinum. 10% seems like a high number to me.

LHP Posted July 31, 2008 #16 Share Posted July 31, 2008 We always check the list. The least number on a cruise has been 8 (4 of which were us)...the most was on the Victory last Sept with around 35...which we expected since it was an older crowd. southbayer Posted August 2, 2008 Author #17 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Jus curious, when you start cruising as a senior citizen, will you list that too next to your cruise ?? Sorry, couldn't resist!:D :D :D on out last two cruises there were only 10-15 of us. Elaine515 Posted August 2, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 2, 2008 I have a hard time believing 10% also... but not if it's a John Heald cruise!!! Maybe on his cruises its 10%!!! We cruised the Victory during our Spring Break April 2008 and their were 20 Platinum Members out of 2758 passengers and just recently, July 14 on the Paradise there were only 8 Platinum Members of 2052 passengers... Neither one at 10% and one a Spring Break and the other one Summertime....

This question, for some reason, fascinates me. What list are you referring to and where do you check it ? I think the argument that newer ships, especially with the "rock star" John Heald, will have a higher % of PLATINUM is very valid. What list are you referring to and where do you check it ? I think the argument that newer ships will have a higher % of PLATINUM is very valid. At the Casino Cage, there is a list of all Platinum Members on the ship. They have to have it for the Platinum Member to sign by their name when they receive their free Slots/Blackjack Tournament entry. Even those not eligible for the entry (under 18) are listed...with a special designation that they are under age. I was shocked too when John said there were 177 Platinums on his sailing. We have never gotten close to that. Usually 1 - 2 % at the highest. Of course that number will go up as more and more folks qualify.

Just another cruise director IMO but I guess he has made a difference for some folks. As far as 10% platinum on average that is way too high overall. More like 2% is a more accurate # from my experience in my 10+ years crusing with Carnival. Our last 2 cruises (Spirit, Glory) both were at 1 1/2% platinum. MAC7 Posted August 2, 2008 #22 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Perhaps John was referencing that 10% of all “Past Guest” in the CCL data base are “Platinum”? Cheers!
OhioJeff Posted August 2, 2008 #23 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Perhaps John was referencing that 10% of all “Past Guest” in the CCL data base are “Platinum”? Cheers! Even that number would be way too high. According to the Dream webpage carnival has had 38,000,000 pax. Highly doubtful 3.8 mill people have cruised 9+ times with Carnival. LHP Posted August 2, 2008 #24 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Since John is the Senior Cruise Director for Carnival, he always sails on the newest ship and does the most expensive routes (counting airfare) like Europe. Perhaps these higher end cruises are usually taken by the more experienced cruiser????
