I actually don't recall free drinks being available on the first night (on a 4 day). I think the other nights it was 7:30 - 8:30 or something close to that.

Have you considered the British Colonial Hilton? I think that is where we might end up. It is not an all inclusive, but the day pass is $15 or 20. Includes pool, beach chairs, umbrella's, nice beach, alcoholic drinks are around $7 they say on the bahamas board, plus it is within walking distance with a nice view of the ships and other boats passing by.

We are planning on eating lunch on the ship before going, since we arrive in Nassau right around lunch time. Then walk over to the Hilton, spend a few hours there and then stroll back with a stop for some cheap souvenirs. Think we will stay on the ship for the evening. I'm sure the sun & snorkeling will wear us out and we will need a nap before the sail away party:p

Oh, and for the people on a strict budget...don't tell nobody I said so but rum runner flasks is an option.

We normally take our bubba kegs to drink water w. Crystal light during the day. Tastes pretty good with a little rum also!icon12.gif

As far as formal night goes, you can wear what you want, but this time we noticed that very few men had jackets and only a couple that were truly formal. Almost all the men were wearing shirt and tie and most were long sleeves. There were some more causual, but the shirt/tie combo was by far the most common. Women tended to dress a little more "formal" but still the majority this time was a nice sun dress or simple evening dress. Only a few women wore formals. It could be it was more casual because it is summer and the ship was full of families.

My husband and I are going on our first cruise on SOS on 9/08 and he was planning on renting a tux on board for formal night because he didn't want to have to wear his wool suit in the heat (or buy a new suit either). Will he be totally out of place if he is wearing a tux? I am taking a cocktail dress and just didn't want him to look too casual next to me.

Thanks!

No, he won't be out of place. We saw a few men in a tux. Actually, I think the men that look out of place are the ones that wear t-shirts, jeans, etc. to formal night. Just my opinion though.

Thanks! Now hubby thinks he will just take his current suit. He can't seem to make up his mind.

Let us know if you are still see a lack of good sales on the ship in Nassau and also if the casino slots are still incredibly tight. We're going again on her final cruise in October.

I just can't believe that the drink of the day has gone to $9.75. Two months ago they were still $5.95.

It's making my onboard bar tabs very expensive? :(

Are they getting the alcohol from Iran too? LOL

LOL!!

Whenever I order the DOD, I ask for it without the souvanier glass...cheaper that way.

We got drinks in the plastic glasses that "light up and blink" and they were only $5.95.

I usually dont drink the DOTD......but like I said they gave them away free in the casino last month(the first night) Waitresses walking around with trays of them for about an hour...

I'll check it out when I go back next week........

Yup, free drinks the first night when they had the gaming lessons.

BOGO on the other nights....only problem was...my money ran out so fast playing the slots, never even had time for a drink...lol! Also, the smoke in the casino, keeps me from staying in there very long. (even by the "no smoking" slots area, the smoke smell is pretty strong)

The drinks were free for one hour each evening in the casino, but that was it. It was like a casino happy hour basically.

We had some ice cream at Ben and Jerrys. A small cub is $2.50 and a waffle cone was $5.00.

Hope that helps.

We are just back from the Sov. of the Seas. We did not see one person in a tux. Some had suits and ties. The best I could get hubby to do, was a jacket (he refused to wear a tie) My son, wore a long sleeve shirt, no tie and my son in law wore a shirt and tie. My daughters and I work cocktail length dresses...saw very few "gowns". I think because it is summer and so hot, folks tend to dress down these days.

Ah, no they didn't have BOGOs on the ship, but if you are a Gold or higher, you should have at least one coupon for a BOGO at any bar.

They did have them in the casino last week...but like I said, I ran out of money before I could order one. ;) The coupon books have a coupon for a free drink (not a frozen one), glass of wine , beer or bottle of water.

Not sure either...I am thinking 8-10 the first night.

Honestly this time, I probably spent the least amount of time in the casino than on any other cruise. My family and I spent more time on team trivia games...we had a ball and even won a few times!

In Nassau, we did a very little bit of shopping and we went to the pirate museum, and then headed back to the pool on the ship. It was empty at the pool, no problem with chair hogs...very pleasant.

The sea day was WILD at the pool! Apparently early in the day a 16 year old and some man got into an altercation and the 16yo got a knife from the bar and tried to stab the man. He ended up in the Brig for the rest of the cruise.

The "belly flop" contest was fun to watch, as was the sexy legs contest. My DSIL won the "hairyest legs"...LOL

Then security seemed to be on "high alert" , and a bunch of 20s and 30s at the pool were having their own belly flop contest and basically splashing alot and security was going crazy and trying to stop it and "held" a few guys and then let them go. It was really kinda silly and all in fun! But made for a very interesting sea day!
