Group bookings

For the T/A's surfing (or anyone that has done this on their own before), is there a minimum number of cabins you have to book to get a group discount? How would you know if there was a discount? Does it vary by cruiseline? Does the "bookee" get any perks? Are there better breaks for higher categories? Any differences in cancellation policies/timelines on payments? If you have seniors/past cruise members is it better to put them together or does it affect cabin price if you split them up? And any ? if may have forgotten - lol. Thanks in advance.

You need to contact a TA. Your questions are better answered by a cruise specialist.

Usually the minimum number of cabins is 8. Only the first 2 in the cabin count towards your total. Your TA will book a group and tell you what your discount is, which is usually cheaper then if you booked individually. If the TA says there isn’t a discount, change TAs. Yes, the “bookee” gets a perk. After 8 cabins in get one BERTH free. That means you get the cost of one bed in a cabin, minus the taxes and fees etc. The amount of that credit varies depending on the categories you booked. If all the cabins were mini suites, you’d get the credit for a berth in a mini suite (at least on Princess this is how it works). If you have a variety the cruise line will pick how much credit they are giving you. For a group you also get points that you can choose how to use. You can give a bottle of wine, or on board credit or a free picture, etc. Your TA will tell you which perks are eligible for your group. I usually take the money for the free berth and spend it on the members of the group. For instance, I might book a private party and pay for it with the money. Or make t-shirts for our group, that kind of thing. It makes no difference if they are seniors or past passengers towards the group price. If you are planning a group, book it ASAP as the cruise line only sets aside so many cabins for groups and once they are gone there is no more group pricing.
