karrie Posted August 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2008 Hi, We just booked a cruise for October. We are in port at St Martin from 7-5. Last time there we walked around the shops where the tender drops you off This time I'd like to go to Marigot for a couple hours and then to the beach. How far is it to Marigot? Are there plenty of taxis there and back? What is the approximate cost. Is there a nice beach near there? I would like one that has changing rooms and chair rental. Thanks Karrie
Aplmac Posted August 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2008 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=93 is where you really want to be to asking this question but since we did this in January... it's about 20 mins. to get over there from P-burg to Marigot cost us about US$8 per person to go to Marigot and about US$9 per person to get back to Pburg. Yes, lots of taxis at both ends. The tourism product in St.Maarten generally is a smooth working well-oiled machine, we found! _________________________________ Cool place, Marigot... here are two pics.. Aplmac Posted August 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Aplmac did you notice any shops closed for "siesta" when you visited Marigot? We noticed this. some close for 2 to 3 hours. We weren't there long enough.. We left the ship I guess around 9? and headed straight for Marigot. After walking around and shopping for about 2 hours we enjoyed a chocolate crepe at the red-umbrella'd sidewalk cafe and were paying the bill somewhere around 11 a.m. in time to discover that many businesses give a discount of sorts on bills paid before 11 in that you can pay the total in either Euros or U.S.$ effectively rendering a temporary 1:1 "exchange rate" When we were there, the Euro was something like 1.50 to the Dollar so it amounted so a substantial discount!! Bear this in mind when you go shopping in Marigot. Somehow I doubt it applies to places like clothing stores (..Wife bought pretty star-spangled shoes and got no discount) but more to restaurants, cafes, eateries? I'm not sure. Whatever....we were out of Marigot by noon, I guess and so I'm in no position to comment on your siesta thing, sorry! but will bear it in mind when we return bcoz Wife is now in love with the whole 'Riviera ambiance' she discovered there! Nice place! Marigot has...French boutiques for the girls!! ______________________________________________
