Wine Shops in Civitavecchia?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there are places to purchase bottled wine in Civitavecchia? We were going to pick up a couple of bottles while in Rome to bring on our cruise, but would prefer getting it somewhere closer to the ship? How difficult is it to embark, go through the process of picking up your cruise cards and disembarking for a few hours prior to sailing...it would be great to have the chance to drop off our carry-ons and check out the port of Civitabecchia prior to leaving....and pick up a couple bottles of Italian Wine !! Thanks for your feedback. :)

We did this very thing last Nov. We dropped our luggage then took the shuttle back into down to get some wine. There is a super market not to far I think its called super marketo or something like that. Its on the bottom floor of a business or apartment building. The wine was very reasonable and great selection,we also bought bottled water.Just get to the ship early.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. You must not have had a problem getting on the ship and then leaving the ship for a quick trip to the market? The poster prior to your message said that there was no leaving the ship once you drop off your bags...I had read on another thread that other folks had done this without problems. Thanks again for your message.

It is no problem to leave the ship -- at least it wasn't on Princess. Take the shuttle into Civitavecchia and you shouldn't have a problem finding somewhere to buy wine. "Supermercado" is the word for supermarket.

Cynthia: Thanks for the info. We are on Princess as well, so it sounds like it won't be an issue for us to drop off the heavy bags and go on a walking quest for a "Supermercado" sans luggage !!

Happy Cruising :)

No,its not a problem. We're leaving for Barcelona in a week or so to do a transatlantic, this will be our 22nd cruise and we always leave the ship after we board,as long as you have enough time remember that cause the ship will leave. The ship is always on time!!!!!Have a marvelous time.

Excellent ! Our transfer from Rome to the port will get us to the ship rather early and it would be perfect to be able to explore for a few hours prior to sail-away. We normally spend our first hours on the ship when we arrive, but this cruise is trans-Atlantic (33 days); so, enjoying "walk-about" in Civitavecchia will be interesting. Thanks for confirming that we can check in and immediately disembark for a while...we'll make certain that we are back in time; I would hate to be waving from the dock as the Grand Princess sails toward Naples....

And just FYI, if Naples is your next port, there is excellent wine available there as well. (Just in case things don't work out in Civitavecchia....or even if they do. :D )
