Pre-Cruise Shipping

The cost of shipping luggage from Virginia to Hawaii will be very expensive, around $250 per bag, one way. We tried shipping bags for an NCL cruise a few years ago and they would not allow it for security concerns. If you're staying at a hotel, pre-cruise, check to see if the hotel will accept shipped luggage.

This has been our experience as well. Expensive to ship, and concerns whether there will be anyone at the pier to accept the shipment upon delivery.

I've only seen one story on these boards of someone who shipped luggage to a cruise. It was shipped to the pier and ended up on the ship but unfortunately nobody knew where it had been put, etc. It ended up being a big mess. The person who tried it said they wouldn't do that again. Oh, and it was an NCL ship.

Cost wise in most cases you would be better off just paying the airline baggage fees.
