salty dingo Posted August 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Here's a brief example of what I can't describe any other way than "attitude". We had just boarded Pearl in Seattle, and were being taken about the ship by a nice young lady who met us at the point where you get your glass of champagne. As we were walking down the hall, we passed a ship's officer - a man with responsibility in housekeeping. My Dad is a real jokester on vacation and he's pretty funny sometimes. The officer asked us if there was anything he could do for us. Dad said something about wanting a puppy delivered to his room. The officer said "no problem", took out his phone, and talked to someone. Noticing that the officer was acting businesslike, Dad said he was just kidding. The officer said not to worry, that he would have his request taken care of. When we got to the room, a towel animal in the form of a dog was waiting on Dad's bed. That was a 100% class act, and I am surprised I just now remembered to share it with you. The Pearl is the best ship I have ever sailed on. What more is there to say? Great story Salty Dingo, it makes me glad I chose the Pearl Tiggerfan... sometimes they won't normally do a towel animal every night, but I would bet you money if you pulled the steward aside and just let them know how thrilled your 7 yo would be with them, I bet you get more than normal. Stewards seem to love to make the childrens vacation one to always remember... Salty.. this was a great memory of the Pearl and your Dad. Thank you for sharing it with us all. Do you remember anything about the young lady who served as your escort? My DD has that job on embarkation day, along with her roommate and 2 of the other dancers. Just wondered if it could have been her.
AnnapolisCruises Posted August 30, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 30, 2008 We sail on the NCL Pearl Oct97 with our two grandsons and I have to say the crew did everything they could for the boys.
VoyageVirgin Posted August 30, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Salty - what a nice thing to share - I'm always amazed when people come here to complain about lousy service - We've never experienced bad service from any NCL ships crew - the land office is a different story - :( Thanks for sharing the "puppy" story - so nice. CanadianTwosome Posted August 30, 2008 #15 Share Posted August 30, 2008 AWESOME!!! I love reading things like this!! I love the towel puppy, too. One of my favourite pics from our Dream cruise involved a puppy in our cabin... :)
AFAMILY Posted August 30, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Nice story and what a great example this officer set for the cabin steward that received his instructions to leave the "puppy" for your dad. It's little things like that gesture that leave a good impression on people and just may bring them back to, in this case, NCL. Happy Cruising! :)
AFT_LOVER Posted August 30, 2008 #17 Share Posted August 30, 2008 And knowing you & how enjoyable you can be, your dad taught you his tricks very well. I am laughing with the Officer on the phone & dad telling him he is joking & gets a real surprise from him. I had an officer 5 staterooms fom us on Dawn who came out of the Bridge with coffee all over his shirt. I told him I was doing a load & give me the shirt to do for him. He did. I did & that was one very happy Officer at the party that night.
lil buddy Posted August 30, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Great story about the puppy. Thanks for reminding me of one that just happened on the Dawn in August. 2 teenage girls with us, in adjoining suite......Devin was our cabin steward ( what a doll ). He was from Jamaica, and the girls are big Bob Marley fans. After chatting with him, all the time, about Jamaica and Bob, that night we came back to find BOB MARLEY in their bed. :) He had made a towel head, with sunglasses and put a beret/with braids on his head. He was on the pillow. with the blanket up the his "neck". It was priceless. The next day, he came to my husband and I and asked if he could give the girls a gift....he had 2 bracelets that said Jamaica on them. He went so above and beyond his duties and the girls are still talking about him. His attention to the girls and to us, earned him a huge tip.......it really paid off for him and for us. He was great. Wish I could upload the picture....but don't know how.
WinnieinWA Posted August 30, 2008 #19 Share Posted August 30, 2008 Thanks for the story Salty! :) I've yet to encounter any crew on NCL that merited any complaints. All of the crew I've ever had the pleasure of meeting have always been very nice and very professional. I get annoyed when people come on here to complain. If you treat anyone with respect they will do the same to you. I don't get it.

I wonder what kind of service they get...)
