Need Advice For Valparaiso to Buenos Aieros Cruise

My wife and I will be taking this cruise in mid-January. We will go from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires. We realize that both these ports will be quite warm, but as we go South and eventually around Cape Horn we believe the weather will be fairly cool. Any suggestions in terms of clothing for the Southern portion of South America. Are heavy winter coats necessary? Any advice would be most appreciated.

There is no right and wrong answer to your question. On our last trip to Antartica, the first time we went throught there it was bitterly cold. It was raining "sideways" and it felt like pins sticking in you. On our return the sun was shining and it was a beautiful spring day - in fact we were there almost 3 days and they were great. It all depends. You may need heavy coats or maybe shorts.

We did this late Feb, early March of this year. We took clothes for all climates (we did forget gloves). We used them all and bought gloves at one of the ports. Dress in layers, take a fleece pullover and a down coat. Use a space bag to back the coat. It will compress down next to nothing. We spent a lot of time topside while underway and were glad we had brought the coats. Ditto on 2 shore excursions.
