I am the same way

I have a Swiss Army knife with a tiny blade and a pair of scissors . Handiest thing in the world. Like someone said, its second nature to have it on my key ring.

First time I had a problem with it was going through the detector at the courthouse when going to jury duty. At least they gave it back to me when I left at the end of teh day. I remember to take it off the keyring now before going through airports

I always have a pocket knife in my purse. I've never had a problem getting on the ship with it.

If you put a dive knife in your luggage they will pull your luggage aside and make you come to the purser's desk to get it. (If they see the knife.) They will have your knife at the door when you leave the ship at the ports. You can take your knife ashore with you and check it back in with them when you reboard. You pick it up in the terminal after you debark.

Has anyone had any problems with taking a pocket knife on board?

We went on NCL in 2006 and were told that we could have a knife with a blade of less 3 inches. However, when we boarded, they took the knife. My husband feels naked without his pocket knife!!!!

may

Was the blade over 3 inches? Sorry, had to ask. Is it a switch or speed blade? Sorry.

That sounds unusual to me, even for NCL.

For anything reasonable, there should be no problem. Heck, one of the first things they hand you is a steak knife (in the dining room). And even on NCL.

Dive knives they can get a little iffy on.

I'm used to carrying a Leatherman tool all the time. I've learned to put it in my checked luggage, and NOT to put it on my belt. My wife carries a small Swiss Army knife in her purse. Same thing! It sucks not being able to carry this stuff, but that's the times we live in.

My husband too feels naked without his swiss army knife but unfortunatly the events of 9/11 have destroyed our trust. My husband wasn't happy leaving his knife when we boarded the Sensation last month citing that he was an honest law abiding citizen until I reminded him that the families of the 9/11 victims would be happy today if the box cutters (same results as a knife) would have been taken from the terrorists that boarded those planes!

For once he agreed I was right! LOL

The prohibited items lists only says knives with blades over 4" are prohibited. Lots of pocket knives are have blades 4" or less. My knife is smaller than that and they've never said a word about it.

It says dive knives can be brought onboard and checked in and out for dive trips.

It also says scissors with blades over 4" aren't allowed. My scissors are right at 4". so they'd be OK if I wanted to take them.

We drive to the port, so airlines aren't an issue for us. If I were to put my pocket knife in my luggage when I board the ship, I'd need to be sure and put it in an outside pocket. I use it to cut the zip ties off the luggage.

My husb swiss army knife (under 4") was confiscated. I guess it may depend on where you sail from? Something I just thought of...if you purchase a knife on one of the islands couldn't you have it mailed home?

Mel

I guess maybe printing out the prohibited item list from the Carnival website and taking it with you might help.

You may want to bring a printout from Carnival. I had scissors confiscated because the screeners are so ignorant they don't know what is allowed & what's not (the reason they even opened the carry on was because they saw a wine bottle, not the scissors!)

I guess if I were adamant I'd bring a printout but my nephew works for TSA and according to him homeland security as well as border control can change any security issues on a moments notice in order to keep borders safe. I'm all for "freedom" but if I was told I couldn't take something that could be percieved as dangerous I'd say "Yes Sir, here it is".... That's just my 2 cents...

I'd agree with you if they wanted to hold it till the end... but some nicer army tools are EXPENSIVE! If they wanted to confiscate it flat out with questionable reasoning I would not be thrilled.

Wear it around your neck and say it's a religious symbol... that you are a decendant of the Knights of the Round Table...

Yeah! Officer, its a knife. Its a religious symbol. I'm a religious nutcase!

That otta win you a free set of interconnected stainless steel bracelets!

We were on the Glory last spring. Buddy of mine had a liter of vodka and a 6 inch knife in a suitcase. After lunch on Lido we were up on deck when his name was called on load speaker to report to pursers desk. There he was escorted off ship to where they xray all luggage coming in and had to open it up in front of inspector. They held his knife till we returned from cruise and told him to be careful not to break the bottle of booze in there as he hauled his suitcase onto ship.
