Do planes from NYC fly into Cherbourg?

Just checking on this. Any help is appreciated. if not, what would be the closest airport to Cherbourg, and how would you get from that one to Cherbourg?

Cherbourg Maupertus airport is a small regional airport. It is about 190 miles or 300 kilometres from Paris. Paris would be the obvious international gateway airport from the USA. There are ferry services from the UK. However flights are not available from either London Heathrow or Gatwick airports which would be the 2 obvious UK gateways. Flying into either of these airports would necessitate fairly lengthy (1.5 to 2 hours) transfers to Portsmouth for the ferry crossing.

 

Paris is definetaly your best bet.

You are going to have to do some homework re your ports(from other posts I have seen you have on this board) if you are going to do this cruise as to locations,transportion etc.You will fly into Paris from NYC,and from there either find a regional flight to Cherbourg,hire a car,take the train or see if your cruiseline offers transfers.If you want to see Paris I suggest you do a precruise there as it is not condusive to a day trip.

You would need to fly into Paris and take the train (approx 3 hours, 200 miles) as Cherbourg is a very small town (42,000 people according to Wikipedia)

You can fly from Heathrow to Caen by KLM.

But the most direct way from the states is by Gharles de Gaulle. then train or hire a car..

You can fly to caen from heathrow but the most easiest way is to Roissy CDG then train or hire a car.

You can fly from Heathrow to Caen by KLM.

Are you sure? The only scheduled flights that I can see are to Lyon and Nice. You could connect from Heathrow via either of those cities, but it's a bit of a faff.
