Wirral Posted September 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2008 We will be stopping in Split on an Italy cruise in a couple of weeks. All other stops we will be able to use euros. Does anyone know if you can use euros in Split or will we need to get local currency before we go or on board? Help would be much appreciated. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 1, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2008 When we were last there we were able to use Euros even though that is not their local currency. Keith
lynn47 Posted September 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2008 It depends where you shop. Each shop is different. We bought a very small amt. of Kuna. We did need to use kuna and euro while in Split.
franu Posted September 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2008 We also used US$ to shop in Split last October. I loved Diocletian's palace which is filled with shops and little alley ways. Fran
Wirral Posted September 2, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Many thanks for your help. I did think I would need Kuna but wanted to check with the experts. I will see about getting some. Pat
OnVacation11 Posted September 2, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2008 In privately-owned shops they will most likely accept Euros and Dollars (I remember getting ice-cream in a cafe where prices were posted in Kuna and Euro). In government-run stores they will only accept the official currency. There is an ATM machine in the port building where I got 50 kuna which was enough for coffee, ice-cream and some post-cards. When returning to the ship, we spend the leftover change in the small grocery store in the terminal building on couple of bottles of water and local beer (very good). We tipped our tour guide in $$.
