Babies in the Dining Room

Recommended Posts

I've heard several people mention there is a "no strollers allowed" rule in the dining room. Is this a **HINT** that they do not want very small children there?

We are sailing with a couple with a very young (will be 3 mo. at time of sailing) child and would like to know of any other rules RCCL might have.

Thanks!

Strollers must stay outside the Dining area .Usually at the entrance doors.Even as this helps to prevent accident and harm to others in the dining area, there still is concern if they block the entrance area .

Megalyce, In answer to your question, babies are more than welcome in the dining room, yes strollers are usually left at the entrance of the dining room. Very seldom have we heard a child crying in the dining room, we have heard many a large party having a great time, which I'm sure some think that can be annoying also!!
Have a great vacation.

Don't worry about it.. it's your vacation too!! I was on the Navigator a few weeks ago and seriously.. I didn't notice anyone or anything expect for the people at my table. I think people that are just looking around and not having fun at dinner time are the picky ones. But I always had a great time and I bet I would have not even noticed if there was a crying baby!! Have fun!!

I have yet to hear an unhappy infant or toddler in the dining room. There is so much going on to keep them entertained - last Oct. our little one (almost three) had such fun in the dining room and she loved formal night.

I have seen a few strollers in the dining room, but just when the baby was in them sleeping. I think they limit them, but allow them if your child is peacefully sleeping.

There is an age limit of 13 for portofinos and chops.

Until we cruise again. . . . . .

There was a crying baby in the dining room on our last cruise. Believe me, if there was a baby crying you would hear it. Parents who bring babies on a cruise should be respectful of other passengers and be prepared to excuse themselves if their baby starts crying.

Crying baby on our AOS cruise and many screaming toddlers. They were all with the same party of 20 or so and had their tables together.

Yes, there was a stroller with the IGNORED infant inside. I honestly could not understand why the parents didn't take him/her out of the dining room. The infant would start up crying around the ending of the main course. The younger children were running all around the table trying to play tag with squeals and screams. Dessert was NOT a treat.
It really raked on my nerves (and I love babies!) and the nerves of everyone around, especially the servers.

This was also the same group that did not leave tips for the servers on the last night and the servers made everyone aware of that fact with their ranting and raving. It was really quite comical, but who can blame them. Non tipping is a disgrace!

To answer your question about the stroller, a baby carrier would be much better and easier to maneuver.

This is pretty much to a 'T' ,the same thing that has happened to us twice on two seperate cruises.
The baby was screaming right behind me in a high chair (Ignored) all through dinner. Two boys playing tag ran right into our table and no appologies from the parents were offered.

Hmmm. Crying babies I can usually deal with, even in a dining room. However, it probably would rack on my nerves a bit if they were right next to me, or right behind me. I would probably say something to the parents if it became unbearable, though I guess that would be politically incorrect.
However, kids actually up and running around the dining room is an entirely different situation for me and it is something that I have never tolerated even from my own son.

That said, I will think positive here, and hope for a great dining experience!!

Adventure of the Seas will be our maiden cruise!

We have yet to have a problem with kids of any age. Even our own. (Ages 13,12,10,9). Babies are very welcome in the dining room.

This is why I choose the late seating. I don't have kids running around my tables at home or when I go to a restaurant and I don't want it while on vacation. Again, the parents need to keep their children seated or not go to the dining room.

We like early seating and in about 30 cruises (about half early), we haven't experienced any disruption in the dining room or show lounge as far as crying babies are concerned. Yes, it's happened, but the mother always left with the baby, or would quiet he/she with a bottle. I can't understand that the dining room management would stand by and do nothing if a baby was wailing away for any length of time. They'd allow the entire dining room to be disrupted for the sake of one party? We had 4 and know that the wailing goes right through you and would be heard by the entire dining room. Hope our luck holds up. If not, I'd complain to the Matre D' after 10 minutes.

I do have to say that our experience was an isolated incident and we have never seen or heard of that situation happening before.

Yep and we didn't even have our three along!
As I said, I love children of all ages and I realize that they can occasionally get out of hand. I blame the parents and not the children.

I don't think this problem is specific to cruiseships. DH and I were eating at TGI Fridays late (about 9:00) last Saturday. There was a table beside us with mother, father and 3 kids that looked to be about 2,4,and 6. The kids were running around the table in circles the whole time screaming, chasing each other, throwing food, etc. Mom and Dad seemed oblivious to the whole thing and just kept eating and drinking. When they left, they left a $1 tip! I felt so bad for the waiter (who was wonderful by the way) and bus boy. There was a horrific mess to clean up, the table, the chairs and floor were all trashed. Thankfully they were gone by the time our meals were served!

You know, I find it quite odd, and very annoying that people love to complain about children - (and I believe children should be made to behave) - but just completel tolerate the loud and obnoxious adult who you will 9 times out of 10 come in contact with at any restaurant. Cruises are vacations, and vacations are for families, no matter what the ages your family consists of. If the people who constantly complain about children don't want to be around them, then they should stay home or try adult only vacations. Those of us who love our children(but insist they are respectful) will continue to vacation - cruise or land - and not worry about the constant whiners. Last I checked, we were ALL once children - maybe some of us should try to remember that.

Happy Cruising!

a 3 month old babie will be so sweet in the didning room. Depending on teh ship they will let you bring her car seat carrier inaand put it on the highchair.. (a few of teh ships haveth eold fachion high chairs but most have the new ones that will hold teh car seat if you lodge it right. We found turning the high chair upside down was perfect and teh couple who brought the baby 31/2 months old fed her before and she slept all through outthe dinner every night wih the exception of 1 but HEck she was 3 months old they are still pretty quiet then and happy to sit on a shoulder.. so enjoy!!

Its not the kids that are acting (respectfully) that everyone is complaining about. It is the children that are misbahing and grating on everyones nerves that is irritating. Take your child out of the room if they cant behave. Dont ignore them!
