Family of 14 Posted April 16, 2004 #26 Share Posted April 16, 2004 cmauney - I have seen quite a few of those adults and I believe we here on this board have complained about them as well. Doesn't matter to me if they are small or large. If my vacation is being disrupted because of any person being out of hand, then I have a right to complain. serene56 Posted April 16, 2004 #27 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Doesnt the head waiter control the dining room with kids running around? i would think that would be hazzardous and can now hear a parent when the waiter accidently drops a hot dish on their precious person running between tables. Guest Posted April 16, 2004 #28 Share Posted April 16, 2004 To the original Poster (megalyce, who hasn't been back!!) you feelin' the love yet?? I love kids, I just hate parents.......... You know, thinking about it, the first time my parents took me on vacation, it was when they thought I was old enough to behave myself and not bother those around me. Enjoyed it. The next year I was embarking on a West Point "upbringing"........ happysinglemom Posted April 16, 2004 #29 Share Posted April 16, 2004 cmauney, I do love kids - and I do remember what it was like to be one. No one here has complained about children in general - it's children that are running amuck with no supervision or attention from the parents. I've seen plenty of complaints about rude adults as well - so I don't see the post as odd or annoying. I agree that cruises can be a family vacation - heck I am getting ready to take my son on one. But I can guarantee you that I would never even consider taking him, if I did not know that his behavior was such that he would never make anyone uncomfortable. If we were taking a trip to the mountains - alone - different story. But a cruise ship is full of people, and everyone should be respectful of others while there. Including children. Adventure of the Seas will be our maiden cruise! megalyce Posted April 16, 2004 Author #31 Share Posted April 16, 2004 ha! I've been back...just silent though... At this point, I'm glad I put them at a table of their own! (We're sailing with a big group for our wedding.) My favorite "kids moment" is at the grocery store when they scream like they're having their toenails ripped off! yarlenna Posted April 17, 2004 #36 Share Posted April 17, 2004 If your infant is using formula, I would bring some of his/her normal stuff. Also, if you are breast feeding remember that what you eat and drink becomes part of the baby's diet too. I would also bring a blankie washed at home, for baby to rest on. Years ago, you could get paper sheets if somebody was allergic - I don't know about today. It is plenty hot in the tropics - so lots of water. The stuff that comes out of the tap might be OK for adults. I am not sure how it would be for an infant. Also, a favorite cuddle toy from home might make life easier for the little one. With lots of work and advance planning, cruising with an infant should be no problem. Work like a dog. Live like a pauper. Save all your money. Then Cruise! cmauney Posted April 17, 2004 #37 Share Posted April 17, 2004 bplazo - gotta agree with you on the misbehaving kids - but while they're being asked to leave, let's do the same with the adults you hear from the far end of the dining room who have had way to much to drink and are sharing a little too much information way too loud. Happy Cruising!
cmauney Posted April 17, 2004 #38 Share Posted April 17, 2004 happysinglemom and others who read more into written words than are there - seems you jumped to conclusions - I wasn't implying the post to be odd or annoying - just people in general who are constantly complaining about children. family of 14 - I, too would complain if I were offended. The only difference with children is they are just that - children - and must be taught. That lies with the fault of parents. We expect children to act like adults, but accept adults acting like children. As adults, we should know better than to be obnoxious and disturbing. That being said, if a child is running up and down the aisles, then I believe his parents should be confronted and the situation handled. Not only is it disturbing to other diners, etc., but it is very dangerous for the child. This is itself should warrant askining the parents to control their child, or leave the dining room, theatre, wherever. Happy Cruising!

GrannyJ Posted April 17, 2004 #42 Share Posted April 17, 2004 You know what I'm grateful for? That cellphones don't work offshore. That way, we're spared the arrogant lamebrain in restaurants that feels his or her cellphone conversation is of such great interest to the general public that he/she must conduct it at rock-concert volume. parothead Posted April 17, 2004 #44 Share Posted April 17, 2004 we could combine the duct tape and chair saveing ideas and duct tape unruley, loud children to the pool chair we want to save for the next day. i guarentee no one would come near that chair (not even the parents)so we would have the chair all to oueselves the next day after we remove the tape and watch the kid take off. ahoughton Posted April 18, 2004 #45 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Some cruise lines have adult only cruises. I agree with Folgy, the parents are the problem. We travel more in the winter months and people have to put up with us cantankerous old farts than the young kids (not really that old). I enjoy seeing a young family with disciplined children. I always tell them. I also have a way of telling the parents of unruly children if they are annoying. "Baby lets cruise away from here"
Hoopster3145 Posted April 18, 2004 #46 Share Posted April 18, 2004 I can understand bringing young children, but why would you bring a baby on a cruise? All it is going to do is tie you down, and make it so others only have to deal with a screaming baby by the pool, at dinner, at shows. One entertainer on the radiance actually told the parents to do somting about the baby or leave! 1/01 NCL Majesty 1/02 NCL Majesty 1/03 RCCL Brilliance of the Seas 3/03 Carnival Jubilee 8/03 RCCL Navigator Of the Seas 1/04 RCCL Adventure of the Seas 3/04 RCCL Radiance of the Seas 8/15/04 Rhapsody of the Seas 14 DAY LEGEND OF THE SEAS PANAMA CANAL CRUISE (12/26/04) 3/13/05 SPRING BREAK on the Explorer of the Seas
girlzillla Posted April 19, 2004 #47 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Hoopster, I have have been trying to ask that question for a long time. I love children and I love babies (even crying ones). I wouldn't even mind having one in the dining room with me. But I can't understand taking a cruise with a tiny baby or even a toddler. It's like taking kids to a casino, which I have done and regretted every minute of it.
