New to NCL-questions I can't find answers to anywhere else!

We are planning a cruise on Gem next April and have a few questions. I've searched but can't find definite answers anywhere.

Wine-I think you can BYO and pay a $15 fee but don't see that on the NCL site. True?

Dining-can you make reservations in advance (even day of) or do you always have to wait?

I am sure I will have many more over the next 8 months!

Thanks so much!

You can BYO wine on board but NCL will charge you a cockage fee of $15.00/per bottle.

You can make reserevations for dining in advance. How far in advance depends on the type of cabin you will be cruising in. Mini-suite on up have a 48 prior window and all other cabins are 24 hours in advance.

This of course is only for the extra charge restaurants. For the main restaurants (no extra charge) you can only make reservations for larger parties...I believe it's 8 or more people.

BTW, I really think the word you were looking for was corkage.:D

Thanks for pointing out my typo, LOL!!!

Reservations include restaurants that do not have a cover charge. Below is the policy:

Reservations are NOT required for any of our dining rooms or restaurants, however, are accepted for any venue for that

day of or the next day.

Pre-paid dining reservations can only be made for the “Groups” department, not through FIT.

Concierge staff will not be permitted to make “blanket reservations” or reservations for multiple specialty reservations for a VIP or Suite guest. The guest MUST commit to dine in a specific venue.

Reservations can be made on board at the Reservation Desk which is staffed 7am-4:30pm daily. On embarkation day the desk is available 12pm-4:30pm.

Reservations can also be made on-board through a phone line which is staffed 7am-5:30pm daily. On embarkation day the hours are 12pm-5:30pm.

All guests, regardless of the manner in which they make a reservation, are advised either verbally or in writing of NCL’S Dining Cancellation Policy.

We are looking forward to trying the freestyle concept and hope to sample every kind of dining we can during the week.

We just finished sailing on HAL, which allowed you to bring on your own wine for a corkage fee, and really enjoyed picking out our favorites and bringing them along. The fee was really worth it. We look forward to doing the same next spring.

Now, to get through the winter...

LOL ... I guess that fee could be true ... depending on how you're bringing the wine bottle onboard :p

Thanks for giving me a chuckle today ... I really needed it :D

Yes, win has a corkage free of $15 for each bottle you are bringing onboard.

As far as dinner reservations, if you are in a balcony or a suite then you can reserve up to 48 hours in advance via the phone. The phone in your stateroom has the button marked for this.

Any more just ask, never a stupid question to me.

I believe that the 48 hour window applies to balcony cabins also. I remember reading it when 2.0 first was announced. I copied this from an old NCL press release.

Balcony and Mini Suites, all of the above plus:

  • Special color keycard;
  • Escort to stateroom on embarkation day;
  • Bathrobes;
  • Customized Fruit Menu;
  • Fresh-baked cookie at turn down on last night of cruise;
  • Priority Restaurant Reservation and Reception hotlines.

Just wanted to clarify as this information is a little hard to find on NCL's site.

We are in a BC balcony-hope we get the 48 hour timing-that would be great! Never seen any perks for plain old balcony rooms before.

Thanks for the nice welcomes!

I too want to say welcome to NCL and welcome to the CC boards. Any questions you come up with do not hesitate to ask them here. No matter how much or how little you have cruised, you can always learn something new here by people asking their questions and people giving answers.
