Hi:

Does anyone know if James Deering will still be on the CB in January after the dry dock? DH and I are scheduled for the first cruise after dry dock on January 25th and after hearing so many wondeerful things about him from when he was Hotel Manager on HAL, I would love to meet him personally.

Regards,

Arlene

First a correction to yesterday’s post:

It should have read Then they had EMT’s that came onboard with a stretcher. I have no idea what that was all about, just hope that no one is really that bad of shape. What a terrible thing to happen on your cruise. Somehow spell check must have corrected it for me to something wrong.

Second to answer a few of your questions:

I don’t recall if James Dearing made any comment on moving to another ship. Maybe if he is someone else can answer that question. I might be able to ask him as he seems to be very visible around the ship.

Yesterday we did drive by slowing up ate the Memorial for the Swiss Air Crash on the way back from Peggy’s Cove.

Crooners Bar Sunday was Robert Smith, Then Monday, Tuesday and tonight Wednesday it is Bert Stratton.

Wheelhouse Bar Every night so far has been Mr & Mrs Smith and Geraldo Sa Quartet

Club Fusion has been Passion

Princess Theater tonight will be CALIENTE at 7:15 PM & 8:45 PM

THE INTERNATIONAL CREW SHOW (PG-13) 10:30 PM

I can’t say that there are any teens on this cruise, at least I have not seen any. There are a few small children, pre-school age.

I really cannot say where all the fresh brewed coffee can be found. I am not a coffee drinker, sorry. Maybe someone else can answer that question.

Third new update:

Tuesday we departed Halifax right on schedule. Once we were out in open water we were in force 7 (Gail force) head winds. We were cruising at 19.1 knots even with the head wind. The seas were between 4 and 7-½ feet and I would say it was toward the higher end of that range.

We ate supper in the Café Carbie buffet as we wanted to get to the 7:00 PM show “Do You Wanna Dance”. This is a new show onboard in its’ first season. It is truly great. Not only are they dancing around and hopping onto small tables while dancing they do it all while on a moving stage. I say a moving stage due to the seas. We had planned to stay for the next show but it did not sound like anything we wanted to see (COMEDY SHOWTIME with John Joseph. We headed back to the cabin and DW and sister watched the feature film of the night “Maid of Honor” that was showing on Movies under the Stars but they watched it on the small screen in our cabin (channel 25).

This morning it was 55 outside and fairly clear with a forecast high of 66. The winds were down a little, they were force 5 at 19 knots as we approached Saint John. This morning we were going at 21.3 knots with a cross wind.

We arrived at 9:30 AM but had to wait for another ship to clear the harbor before we could dock. I think we were docked and people were getting off around 10:15 AM. It might have been a little sooner or later as we did not rush off of the ship this morning since we did not schedule any tours for today.

When you get off the ship they have people to welcome you and the ladies are given rose buds while the men are given pins ofr the Canadian flag. We walked a few blocks from the pier and found a cab and hired it for two hours at $40 per hour. If you hire one by the pier they charge more and want to combine your group with others into a minivan and charge by the person. The lady cab driver was very nice and took us all around telling us about the town and what we were seeing, She stopped wherever we wanted so that we could take pictures. We first went to the top of a hill where there was a fort that overlooks the harbor and town. We went to several other places and churches then our first location to see the reversing falls. It was an overlook right at the rapids next to the location that people get on the Jet Boat Ride. We then had two other locations to see the Reversing Falls. The last place was next to a bridge in a park, I believe it is the Reversing Falls Park, and this was an outstanding sight of the Reversing Falls and also of the harbor and the ships in port. We again today had three ship in port but crowds were not an issue today. We had the lady drop us off by the City Market so we could look around and do a little shopping. The prices were very reasonable there. We bought our daughter a large bag with straps and a zipped top for $10. After that we headed back to the ship for a late lunch. Both DW and sister are currently taking naps so I am sure we will not be getting off again today.

Tomorrow it will be Bar Harbor and we are scheduled for a Whale Watching Tour in the afternoon. It is one of the tender ports with the ship scheduled to arrive at 7:00 AM and depart at 5:30 PM.

Another quick question, are there coffee pots in the mini suites?

Thanks,

Tammy

Marilyn is right, no coffee pots in the minisuites. We are in a minisuite on Golphin deck, close to the mid-ship elevators.

Of our three cruises on the CB this year this cabin has the worst beds.th n Our other two cruises we were in an inside cabin and those beds were fine, at least for us.

Last night we ate in the Palm Dinning Room again. We walked up with no reservations at 7:00 PM, there was no one waiting and we were seated right away, We shared a table with two sister.

We skipped the shows and spent some time in the casino instead. Nothing else to report at this time.

Thanks so much for the live info.

I liked hearing when you went to diner and the wait time.

Would be interested in hearing about what types of clothes are best. We leave on Sunday. How heavy of a coat/jacket?

Have fun!

Thank you for your reviews.

I actually saw the CB on Sunday 2 times. Once while she was docked in Red Hook and the other time as she was heading out to sea. It was after 7pm when I saw her and thought to myself it was a bit late. I was at an event for Leonard Bernstein's anniversary at Green-Wood Cemetery in Bklyn. Green-Wood has the highest point in Bklyn and the view of the dock is fabulous. Later on I was over in Rockaway visiting friends and I decided to go up to the Boardwalk to look at the ocean and lo and behold there was the beautiful CB going out to sea. I was wishing I was on her again.

Its nice to know she will get a good overhaul. On my sailing there was nothing but complaints about the AC and port times cut short. I did see them installing new carpets while I sailed and my mattress was brand new. I had an egg crate put on my bed because I like it softer. Personally, I had a wonderful time sailing on her and had no complaints.

The coffee bar is located in the Atrium lobby :) for those who inquired.

Have fun!

The clothing that has been needed so far has been anything from short sleeve shirts and shorts to jackets and long pants. We have not had any rain other than Saturday in New York with Hanna. If you are doing the whale watching you will want to dress very warmly and your tickets will recommend dressing warm for a good reason.

By the way on Monday Formal night we did not see anyone men not wearing at least a jacket. Only saw two men with open collar shirts. Everyone else had suits with ties or Tuxs.

Thursday we spent the day in Bar Harbor. We arrived right on time. It was the first port coming back into the USA so we had to go through the Customs Boarder Patrol inspection which was just a walk through and having our passports checked. The real inspection will be when we return to New York on Sunday. Bar Harbor is a tender port so you go to the theater to be taken to a tender to ride to the dock. That proved to go very smoothly and we were ashore in no time. We walked around for a while and ended up in the town square. There you can catch a free bus run by the National Park Service to ride out and through the Acadia National Park, you just need to have a pass for your group. Since my sister has a National Park Pass already we did not have to spend a dime for an hour and fifteen minute narrated ride through the park. It was a very pretty park and a nice ride. After the ride we ate at one of the local cafes. We did a little shopping before going and boarding the large boat for our Whale Watching Tour. The boat holds over 400 people and is a jet powered boat to avoid injure to the whales. The seas were very smooth with 1-2 foot waves and it was a sunny clear but cold day. We were bundled up with our jackets and our GoreTex jackets over that and it was still cold. We had a very good day as we first saw a female Fin-back Whale. It was one that they know and it has a name, Lunch. That is because it had at some point had its' dorsal fin bit off by something. After watching for a little we moved over to where there were two Hump-back whales. They also knew these two by sight. They were a male name Flyer, and a female named Siphon. They were in a very playful mood and even came over and played with the boat. They swam together and flapped their fins for us and Flyer even breached once for us ( I missed getting it as that was on the other side of the boat). When it was time to leave we had to slowly pull away from them, before heading back at high speed. When we got back it was time to get on a tender and head back to the ship. Again the tender operation went very smoothly and we were back on the ship in no time.

Last night we ate again in the Palm Dinning Room at about 7:00 PM. We walked right in and got seated at a table of 6 but had the entire table to ourselves. They were seating about everyone at their own table. The table next to us was a couple at a table for 8. There were no lines for people with or without reservations. Our waiter commented that on this cruise after the time for the first seating the dinning rooms had very few people coming in to eat. We decided to call it a night after supper and head to our cabin since today is going to be a very busy day.

We are pulled in to Boston and were tied up at 7:00 AM. It was just a few minutes later that the ship was cleared for passengers to go ashore. We went ashore around 7:30 and had no lines and walked right up to a taxi to go to the Boston Commons. From there we started walking the Freedom Trail. We walked all of it over pass Paul Reverse’s house and the North Church. At that point we had done all of it that we had planned on doing so we walked back until we found a taxi. It was just another short taxi ride back to the ship. We do not plan to do anything this afternoon other than get dressed for the Captain Circle meeting and then supper again in the dinning room.

This afternoon I will be spending most of my time tracking Ike since it looks like it will be going right over the top of our home. Yesterday we talked with our daughter and she was scared so she drove with her three year old daughter to Austin to ride it out with her in-laws. Our two sons and their wives plan to shelter in place. Sure would rather be at home to talk care of our home but we will just have to let it be as there is nothing we can do at this time.

Bill,

Thank you for your time and live review, we'll be on the 10-5 sailing. I'm hoping for dry days and good color. Everything else will be icing on the cake!

I do wish you the best for your home, and I hope you continue to have a wonderful time on board CB. You can deal with life when you get back. Will your sons tend to any immediate needs for you?

Thanks So Much For This Wonderful Post. We Get On The Cb As You Get Off. So Happy To Hear That Anytime Dining Has Not Been A Problem For You. We Have Never Had A Problem With It - Earlier Posts Made Us Worry A Little.

I Just Told My Husband To Put His National Parks Pass In His Wallet. That Ride Through Acadia Sounds Great. We Have Been There, But Won't Mind Seeing It Again.

Hope That All Is Well With Your Home When Ike Passes. We Have A Home In Florida, So Know What Hurricane Worry Is Like. But Please Don't Let It Ruin Your Last Day.

Safe Home.
