In Saskatchewan the legal age to enter a casino or bar is 19... Can someone tell me what the age would be on the ship. We are looking at the Ryndam to Alaska if that makes any difference. We would like to take our daughter with us and she would be 20 at the time we sailed, we are wondering if she could join us in the lounges for the shows or in the casino should we go in.

A person must be 18 or older to gamble in the casino -- your daughter will not have any problems there.

 

Alcoholic beverages can NOT be served to anyone under the age of 21. But there is nothing wrong with your daughter sitting with you in a bar and having a soda.

Krazy Kruizers is right on all points, just want to add something. A friend of ours grandaughter came on a cruise with us, age 12. She was not allowed to even sit in the casiino but she could sit at a bar with us. Ofcourse she was only drinking fancy non alcoholic beverages, but it was nice she could stay and join in all the activities around the bar. She really seemed to enjoyed that and we enjoyed having her. So your 20 year old will be fine, she should have a great time.

I think that is a good thing as children under the age of 18 do not belong in a casino, for any reason.

Of course, my personal opinion is that they do not belong sitting at a bar either. There are places set aside for adults and there are places set aside for children and there are places for both to interact. Bars and casinos are not one of those places.

Just a heads up (and this obviously does not apply to your daughter, coffee39) On some HAL cruises, specifically in the night club (Crow's Nest and/or Northern Lights), the DJ has made/will make an announcement at midnight or as early as eleven that the place becomes "Adults only" and that anyone under the age of eighteen will have to leave. On those cruises, that same info was posted in the Daily Program and was followed up by Security staff with I.D. checks of the "young unes" inside the night club at that time.

Kakatina, I don't disagree with your points on having children in casino or bar but this was in the Crows Nest on an "S" class ship. Just my opinion but to me there is a lot of difference between bars on a cruise ship and our local watering holes at home. Personally I've see lot of kids in the bars on cruise ships, as these same bars tend to be multifunctional areas, especially on the "S" and "R" class ships. All the activities at night for dancing, karaoke, etc., where there in the Crows Nest on the Ryndam. So in as much, there tend to be kids under 18 up in that area at night. Under normal circumstances I personally would never take any child to a bar.

The young lady will be twenty when OP and his/her is family sailing. I see no problem with a 20 year old young woman sitting with her parents in Ocean Bar or Crows Nest. I might think differently about a 12 year old, but 20 is quite different.
