Taking Wine on Board

I am new to HAL (First Cruise). What is the policy on taking wine on board at embarkation. I assume you may drink it in your stateroom.

From what I've been able to gleen reading the boards, you can bring as much as you like, short of driving a forklift up to your cabin... ;)

 

And yes, you can drink it in your cabin without encuring a corkage fee.

You may bring wine and champagne on, no limit. Drink it in your cabin or in the dining room with a $15 corkage fee. No hard liquor or beer is allowed. Try a search and you will find many threads about wine & bringing alcohol onboard. More than you will want to read!

Is there a bottle opener in each stateroom? Have been caught out by that before when there was one on our previous cruise but not the one when we brought wine with us. We will be on the Volendam.

Yes you may bring wine aboard. Corkage charge in the dinning room, non in your cabin. Enjoy!

Occasionally you might find a wine or soda card stashed in Gideon's Bible, but I've never found a wine opener, lol. :rolleyes:

I highly recommend bringing your own. :)

You can take as much wine and champagne on board as you wish.

Do pack your own opener -- the majority of the cabins do not have one.

Should you decide to take a bottle to the dining room -- there is a $15 corkage fee per bottle. If you are unable to unfinish the bottle you take to the dining room, your wine steward will be glad to tag it and save it for the next day.

If you forget to bring a opener, just ask the cabin steward,

he will gladly bring you want for the entire cruise. I have done it before!!

The benefit of these is that you can get a glass really fast in the dining room, as you can nip the top off yourself (ignore the funny looks from the people at the next table looking through the wine list...) We really enjoy NZ sauvignon blanc and many of them have screw tops....
