pxgrant Posted October 28, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2004 Hi all! We are sailing on the Caribbean Princess on 11/20. Friends of ours sailed to Alaska in September and booked 2 cruises while they were on board because they got "such a deal". Can anyone give me an idea of how much you can save if you book in advance on the ship. We are looking at taking the Golden Princess in May of 2006. Thanks to everyone in advance. MichTraveler Posted October 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2004 For Princess, you do the advance bookings while on board. You get 2 benefits: (1) Your $100 down payment is all you need to pay until final payment, so you don't have to pay the usualy 50% of the cruise price when you book. That $100 per person is totally refundable for up to 4 years should you decide not to book a cruise. (2) You get room credits. They range from $25 or $50 to up to $200 per cabin based on number of cruise days and cabin location (inside / balcony / etc.). We did one on our last cruise and wish we had done two! Check with the future cruises desk on your Novenber cruise. You don't need to specify what next cruise you want at that time. Plus, this is in addition to whatever best price you get on the cruise booking, including any cabin credits your TA may offer. You can't lose. Colo Cruiser Posted October 28, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2004 For us the only benefit of booking onboard is the future cruise onboard credit. I have never found a good fare through the cruise line. If you turn your booking over to a good TA then you will probably save more. We booked 4 on the Island last month. :)

Cruisin'40 Posted October 29, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2004 Is the onboard credit valid on the cruise you are on, or is it for do you get it on the cruise you book? (Sorry if this is a dumb ?):o

(Sorry if this is a dumb ?):o[/quote The credit applies to your future cruise. BTW this 100.00 deposit is transferable to any TA online or otherwise. Simply give the TA the reservation # Princess gives you at the time of the on board future booking
ajl111 Posted October 29, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 29, 2004 Love the onboard booking system! You don't even have to know what you want to do -- they have a form you can fill out that will keep it an open booking. Then after you get home you can look thru brochures and figure out where you want to go next. On this form you can check off a block that will give the booking to your current travel agent and Princess will notify them automatically. (Travel agent already confirmed that she received the booking information from Princess.) It's so easy -- don't need to wait in line to talk with the onboard rep. Just grab a form, fill it out and stick it in the box near her office. I booked 2 more cruises on a Monday, and won a cruise on Friday (bingo). Boy, I've got some serious planning to do!! :D

Pam in CA Posted October 29, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2004 One thing to keep in mind when booking a cruise onboard (not the "open" booking) is that you're booking is sent to your TA who is the one who will get you the best rates. It's not really related to pricing -- just booking the cabin or cruise. Once you get home, you talk to your TA and they'll help you out with the pricing. MichTraveler Posted October 29, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2004 Normal deposits for Princess cruises are $250 for 7 day cruises and $450 for cruises over 8 days. BJS: This is great to know. Our first cruise TA asked for 50%, so we just figured that was the rule. I care more about the extra cruise credit. Thanks for the correction.
