Stock Obc Not Combinable Anymore

I specifically started to buy RCl for the OBC and that it was combinable with a next cruise OBC. I am buying through a share builder account and have only 13 shares. I figured it would take about a year to get there with 2 shares a week. We are a family of 6, so anything helps. I wanted to be loyal but now I am rethinking my plans also. After our Dec cruise on Liberty, we'll be platinum. We will have made that level in 13 months. 4 cruises, 1 JS extra credit. When we cruise I use the friends & family certificates for our 2 cabin and that cabin gets the $100 OBC too. So we get $200 OBC which is great but I am going to stop and think about the stock purchase now. No brainer really $200 OBC trumps the stock $100. Although today it's under $20 and would be a good day to buy a few extra to keep my avg. cost down.

Either you read the old policy or you didn't do a very good job reading:

"Shareholder benefits onboard credit is not combinable with other onboard credit offers, general loyalty offers, 'dollars off' promotions and savings certificates. Guests have the option to choose between the shareholder benefit or the other offer."

I'd say that is rather clear that once they begin to enforce the new policy you will no longer be able to combine Shareholder OBC, OBC for booking on board and Diamond Balcony discounts, you will only be able to pick one these three discounts per cruise.

Perhaps you din't read the last sentence I wrote

"For years the shareholder credit page said the offer was only good on bookings before a certain date but that never was a problem."

I just used the shareholder credit $200 last week coupled with "next cruise credit $200 and diamond balcony credit ($300).

I stated that for years the cutoff dates for the shareholder credit have stated that you had to book by such and such a date.

But they have never enforced that rule. Maybe they are not going to enforce this either.

I have used the shareholder credit for more than 10 cruises so far.

You likely had good timing last week and got the request in a few days before they began enforcing the new policy. I am not sure if they will immediately begin enforcing the policy on a consistent basis or if it will take some time, but at least as of now there is a report that someone was denied Shareholder OBC along with Next Cruise OBC (see post #295 in this thread).

I can only hope that RCL stock heads back up so it can be unloaded.

Oil just dipped back below $100. I think there might be a nice bounce leading up to earnings next month or just after their earnings report (unless more bad news about the economy negates any impact the drop in oil is going to have on their outlook for 4th quarter '08 and fiscal year '09). A key factor will be whether or not they are experiencing a decrease in bookins as Carnival Corp. recently reported. I still don't like RCL stock long term, but at $20 or so per share it is looking like it may have some good short term potential.

Lots of good thinking going on here. We all "vote" with our dollars. I just booked a cruise that was the lowest price ever. $649.00 for 10 days...but the tips get added and the fuel surcharge is added and the ? is added so the total is $2052.00 for the 2 of us. plus air fare( with all thier add ons). Still a great deal at just over $100.00 a day per person. We took our first cruise 12 years ago with the same line and it cost us about $100.00 per person per day then. I love cruising and I had switched to RCCL or X because of the better perks for repeat cruisers but I have started going back to other lines again now BECAUSE they are taking our perks away.

We agree and hope the BRAINS at RCL headquarters are reading this. Let them understand they will lose especially when their guests realize many other lines are just as good as they are. Perks are great motivating factors.

Just recieved word back that Stockholder Benefit is not applicable as I have OBC, if this continues why bother with a On Board Future Cruise Booking to get the OBC(and give them your money for up to 2 yrs) when you can pick up a Bargain and then get the Stockholder Benefit, RCCL will lose out in the long Run as it seems they no longer regard repeat Customer Loyalty as something to encourage.

Predictably, Rccl is just as confused as they normally are. I was offered OBC as an incentive to book on Friday by RCCL (UK) but when I pointed out the new rules about combining OBC the agent said "it doesn't apply if the OBC comes from us " !!!

I sent him away to check and so far he hasn't come back to me, I await with bated breath !!!!

Luv

Cy

I guess it has to become all about choices now. I still would use NCs for shorter cruises but it would make sense to use the stockholder OBC for cruises 14 Nights and longer.

I am not sure if the Diamond discount is still allowed with the stock OBC. If it is, you make out better using the Diamond discount for a Balcony ( $300.00) compared to $250.00.

I have all my future cruise's already confirmed with my Stockholder OBC. On my Mariner cruise ( August 17, 2008) was the 1st time I ever had a problem getting the stockholder OBC( had OBC on more than 15 cruise's) applied to my account! After the 3rd day it wasn't there. I went to the pursor's desk, took a copy of my email confirmation along ( yes I had other OBC, Diamond Discount, Casino Royal OBC, etc.), the pursor's desk said they had to verify my stockholder info with the Miami Office. The next day I did get it applied to my account! Who knows what tomorrow brings! I am leaving in 11 days for my Liberty Cruise and we shall see!

Anybody who has not yet sailed, but previously confirmed Shareholder OBC for an upcoming cruise for which they also received OBC for booking while on board a prior cruise call today to see if both OBC's were still being applied?

I hope they do not retroactively deny OBC that was previously confirmed because of this new policy. That would really lead to a lot of angry people.

The shareholder credit does not appear on your invoice from RCI is that not correct?

The other discounts/credits do.

So if you have written confirmation that the Shareholder is applied you will really not be sure until you get on the ship and view your account. I will be checking this all out in November.

Hope to hear back from those you will be sailing soon to see how it plays out

I bought more at $19.70

I actually took the plunge today too. Hopefully with oil being pulled down by the bad economy, they will be able to raise '09 guidance and we will get a spike. Last time the stock dropped below $20/Share oil was around $140+/Barrel if I recall right. I thought RCL deserved to be under $20/Share when oil was that high (and looked like it was heading higher) but with oil fluctating between high $90s to low $100s under $20/Share doesn't seem right to me. Of course if they announce they are struggling to fill their ships and/or that people are spending significantly less on board, then it might keep tanking - so it is far from risk free even here.

I think there is still a way for someone to check if the credit is listed as pending on your reservation. I know when I transferred my reservation to a TA for my last cruise she made a comment about seeing OBC on my reservation (which was Stockholder OBC).

If you agent gifts you OBC can you still get the shareholders OBC too?

Since this is a brand new policy, nobody know with 100% certainty, but I think there is a very good chance you could receive both agent gifts and Shareholder OBC as the agent gift does not cost RCL anything.

The OBC from a T/A is not coming from RC, so yes you should be able to have Both!

The Stock is now at $19.10. Better jump on it while it's Hot!:p

Actually it's at $19.66

I'd be careful about encouraging other people to "jump on it" though as it is extremely volatile. It could bounce 20%-25% in either direction very fast.

Good luck Gonzo, I actually went back in also. Right now its more about the economy and filling the ships then it is about the price of oil.
