VN cruise

Hello,

We are planning for a Southeast Asia cruise, with Vietnam as one of the destinations. One of my questions is the travel time between Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City, and how much time does one have to visit the city?

Any experience of any part of your SE Asia trip you would like to share would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I am not sure where we docked for Ho Chi Minh City. It was a hour plus ride from the port to the pier. Be aware that the tour buses go at a constant 35 MPH, regardless of traffic conditions, red lights, stop signs, etc. All the mopeds get out of the way.

Above is a link to a journal we kept online during a cruise that visited Vietnam in 2006. It will open on the entry for Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon. You can use the little blue arrows at the top and bottom of the left side of the screen to page backward for the entries pertaining to our previous stops in Vietnam.

  • 2 weeks later...

There are three places to dock/tender around HCMC.

One is actually behind the Riverside Hotel in District One. So IF you are on a small enough ship (Silversea/SuperStar/Seabourn), you may have no more than a 200 yd walk to main Saigon attractions.

BUT most of the larger cruise ships have to dock or tender further from Saigon. Plan on 2 hours each way. That should cover most contingencies.

Your photo brought to mind our great stay at the marriott a couple of years ago. Wondering where you stay when you are there. It looks like the marriott has more than doubled their rate since our last stay... is that generally a fact of life in HCMC these days or are there some nice alternatives.
