NCL Spirit, 1 night to nowhere

Has anyone done this trip out of New York this year? I am flying up Friday to do this on Saturday, and looking forward to it. My best friend and I have not been on an NCL ship and really dont' ko what to expect from this 18 hour cruise.

Any tips? What to do, not to do, do people dress up? I know it is freestyle, but how do people normally dress for the 1 nighter?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I've been on a few of these one nighters and I like them a lot. They tend to be more of a party boat and I like that in a short cruise. The casino will be mobbed as will the bars. If they have the show called Quest make sure you see it. Really funny. Also, New York is a great city to cruise out of. You will go by the Staue of Liberty which will be on your right(starboard) side. Then you will head toward the Verrazano Bridge. Maake sure you're on the back of the ship on the top deck looking forward. Here's a couple pics of what you'll see. I asked my friend who is a retired Air Force weatherman who says you can't make a forecast over 3 days out to make one for this weekend. His guess is that it will be in the 60's and sunny. No guarantees though. Have a great trip.

Unless you are dining at a speciality restuarant - it is not necessary to dress up. We usually change for dinner but nothing fancy.

A one night cruise is not the way to get to know the ship or how their programs work. The public areas are always crowded, everyone is trying to shove 7 days worth of cruising into a one day cruise. The Spirit is a great ship.

Please go with the attitude that you are going to party and you will have a great time.

All I can say is pack light...very you will be walking on the ship than off the ship carrying everything. I work at the port, yesterday I saw people have so many luggages...Just for one night.

we are flying up Friday, one bag each, and our purse, then going to hotel, droppnig it off, and exploring what we can that night around the hotel, then getting sleep. Up early Saturday morning, exploring the city closest to the port, until noon, then heading to the pier to get the party started. Coming off the ship, latest possible on Sunday, exploring the far side of the city, Canal Street etc, then heading to the airport, flight doesn't leave until 9pm.

Flying in and out of LGA, staying in Jersey City, and taking subway everywhere we can, except the short taxi to and from the pier.

I was on the 9/13 CTN on the Spirit. We had a great time! We had lunch at Cagneys when we got on the ship, dinner at the Bistro and breakfast at Cagneys the next day. We spent most of our time in the casino although it was jammed. Lots of bachelorette parties on the ship. Be prepaird to see some very drunk people. It was definetly a big party boat for the night. It was a nice way to try out a different more expensive cabin on the ship. We got an AD suite. I'm planning on taking the 2 nighter in May on the Dawn out of NYC.

Wifey, I and 10 other friends were on the 9/20 CTN. Beautiful weather. Pool and jacuzzi were full. Dress code was really lax. The waiters were wearing NCL t-shirts in the dining rooms. We ate at LeBistro at 10pm and most of us wore jeans but with nice and clean shirts/tops. If you eat at a specialty restaurant, don't expect to be done in less than 1-1/2 hrs. Take some sea-sick pills because the ship was swaying late at night. The ship seemed to have stop in the middle of nowhere and the rocking/swaying were making some people sick. They had a hot-white party but we didn't go. We decided to go to the club next to the casino instead. I pretty much ate/snacked every 3 hrs. Food all over the place. Don't forget all you can carry duty free liquor. We didn't docked on Sunday until 9am. Waiting for the price to go down for the upcoming 1-2 nighters next year.

How do you get to eat lunch and breakfast at Cagney's? We are just in a balcony cabin, not a suite, so does that mean we do not qualify? Does anyone remember how late the shops stay open until? I saw another post where people are lined up before they even open! That's just crazy!!

We were in a suite so we got to eat lunch and breakfast in Cagneys which was very nice! The line for duty free was ridiculous! Enourmous at about 7pm. My husband and I went after dinner around 10ish and the line was not bad but it was a bit cleaned out. We took the last bottle of Jameson and it was the 12year we couldn't even get the regular bottle. The next morning when I went to pick up our bottle there were people that had carts with wheels just for there liquor! Crazy!

even tho ive been on NCL before this one will probably be alittle different. I'm going to wear a nice pants suite so i dont have to change to go into a dining room and then bringing jeans for on the way home. I can't imagine flying in just to do a one nighter. Are you staying to visit NYC? I'm sure you will have a great time.:)
