sprat10 Posted October 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2008 First cruise and PUMPED! Want to hear opinions on dinner times? 6:30 seems early and 8-8:30 seems late? I dont want to crash after dinner and be so full I cant have a good time, but I dont want to go to early and cut time out from excursions and early activities? I know 6:30 dinner means 5-5:30 prep time for GF :D
sdirector77 Posted October 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2008 We prefer late seating but we usually get back to the ship right before sailaway and the early seating is just too rushed for us.
Sirwinston Posted October 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2008 Sprat10: Congrats on first cruise.:D The ideal dinner time is 7:00. However the cruise line needs to use the dining room twice to feed all the passengers. (Some Expen$ive cruise lines offer single seating but this makes the cost of the cruise go way up example Cunard's grill class). Usually families with young kids and older people prefer early seating. ( actually early seating is usually most requested). While fun loving adults, couples and singles prefer late. I prefer late because I do not want to rush to get ready after shore excursions. When cruising I stay up later, and sleep in later so the late dining time works out better than one would think. I know 6:30 dinner means 5-5:30 prep time for GF :D I have usually chosen late seating for dinner...8:00 or 8:15..I have found that is to late for dinner, we always felt so full (dinner is so good) it was hard to have a good time after eating all that wonderful food! LOL This time we have chose early seating..6:15. I will see how that works out this December on the Triumph. Enjoy your cruise!

wasiii Posted October 2, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 2, 2008 .....eating after 8 PM is way too late for me. I've had late seating only once on a cruise and the only reason I kept it was because i enjoyed the company of the people that were at my table. wasiii

I know 6:30 dinner means 5-5:30 prep time for GF :D Hi Sprat...our last 2 cruises we have done the late seating...yes...it leaves more time to get ready for dinner and not have to rush..but I did feel more tired during the actual dinner for some reason...this cruise (in 24 days...woo hoo) we have requested early seating...most of our excursion tours end early enough that we will get back to the ship in time to get around without rushing...I hope...the best thing to do is go with the flow for this cruise and for your next cruise you can request a different time or request the same...Good Luck & Happy Sailing:)
mom2tcdx2 Posted October 2, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 2, 2008 At home we tend to eat around 7-7:30 so the early is a bit too early and late too late. This upcoming sailing we have however requested the early seating as I felt on a previous cruise I missed some of the shows I would have liked to see in the evening. But I guess we really have to wait until we get onboard to see what we get. However if I get the late I won't be one of those rushing to try and get them to switch it. I too figured the multiple postings were due to computer error. I would think the mods would be able to delete the multiple entries or merge them together? Sometime when I see multiple threads on the same issue I wish they would put them together.
mrsfuzzmo Posted October 2, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 2, 2008 We don't have a set "dining" time at home. Sometimes it's 5:30 sometimes it's 8:30 just depends on what's going on. We definitely prefer late seating for a couple of reasons. 1. Fewer kids 2. More time for a cocktail before dinner 3. More time in port 4. Less rushed in the dining room (We've seen people sitting at a table from the early seating enjoying their company and get pushed out to prepare for late seating. 5. Many evening activities don't start until 10 pm or so many times. For us, late it is!
Frick_&_Frack Posted October 2, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 2, 2008 We take the late seating (which is a bit later than we would normally eat); however, we don't really attend shows - just go to the casino to donate after dinner ;) . We aren't "excursion oriented" either though. We cruise to relax - so the late dinner allows us to run at a very relaxed pace. I think it depends on your own schedule and what you think your plans may include. Have fun no matter what you decide!

candigirl41 Posted October 2, 2008 #16 Share Posted October 2, 2008 Since they have gone to two dining times your choices are 6:00 and 8:30. 8:30 is just way to late to start as you won't get any food for at least 15 minutes. I couldn't eat much that late in the evening. The ships usually seem to leave port early enough that it is not a problem getting there by 6:00. If I am in port late sometimes I eat at Lido or have dinner in town. Candi
