Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted October 15, 2008 #226 Share Posted October 15, 2008 How sticky is Carnival on how you use the OBC? The Carnival announcement on the stock ownerships says: "This benefit is not transferable and cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account. If I went on a cruise and didn't buy anything or do any shore excursions, do they actually not apply the OBC to the tips? Thanks Mark The OBC is as good as cash, as far as I can tell. We have never had an issue. Of course, our charges are across the board - so your mileage may vary! Tom
sallyb Posted October 15, 2008 #227 Share Posted October 15, 2008 I told DH about this stock on Friday, we got 100 shares today at $28. Our broker thought it was a great buy at $30. Now to get my OBC....:D
neatokimmo Posted October 16, 2008 #228 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Ok I am the jinx in the group, if I buy CCL stock it will drop in the next 24 hours  I also got some today at 28.00. And I'm done, no more until it goes up a little bit.
neatokimmo Posted October 16, 2008 #229 Share Posted October 16, 2008 My last sail and sign was really cheap, I can't remember exactly how much (under $50?). They did apply the OBC towards my tips (and a couple of drinks woohoo). How sticky is Carnival on how you use the OBC? snedecor Posted October 16, 2008 #232 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Now do you check to see if you got it before you sail? Is there a place on the web site you can go to check your OBC?

gtalum Posted October 16, 2008 #236 Share Posted October 16, 2008 If it falls into the teens you will see a lot of people buy. Yeah you will. I'll look into it if it dips below $20. I have a feeling it will go below the 2001 lows. Disclaimer: I'm a not a financial professional (not that they know what they're doing right now anyway!). JMS920 Posted October 16, 2008 #237 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I've been following the fall of Carnival stock, waiting to buy. 2 questions... 1-does this stock pay dividends yearly? 2-I have b2b cruises this Dec. will I get the $100 credit to both of these? (no I'm not buying this stock just for the credit :) I believe it will be a good investment in the long run. Thanks for your help. JoAnn

JoAnn Dividends were discussed a couple of pages back - this is the third time I have purchased CCL, and I have never held onto it long enough to reap a dividend. Yes, each sailing is considered separate cruise - so you would enjoy an "instant" $200 return!!! Tom

JoAnn Given the current economic environment I would not count on the dividend being secure. Buy only because you like the prospects over the next 3-5 years. I don't see it getting there myself but I've been wrong before (please don't tell my husband I said that) :D If somehow it did get that low it would be really hard not to step up and buy some more just to spread the cost of the stock around. tha sista Posted October 16, 2008 #244 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I am generally the advice giver rather than receiver, however I now find I am in need. I have never tried to use the stock ownership OBC benefit for a group cruise. (going on my first group cruise in less than 2 weeks) I have this past week faxed to carnival 3 times my proof to get this benefit. there have been 4 phone calls, each with different instructions on how to get this done. the last one was that I have to send my stock proof to my TA who then in turn has to send it to carnival. I must admit, I really don't like my TA having this very personal information. I feel like I am getting the run around, not to mention the wasted time on faxing and phoning....I am a very busy person during business hours and don't have time to keep playing these games. Those of you who have experience in this arena, could you please comment? I have 6 group cruises booked and 2 individually booked cruises over the next 1.5 years and need this info for these cruises as well.... DqALEX Posted October 16, 2008 Author #245 Share Posted October 16, 2008 All I had to do was to fax in my proof of stock ownership, my name, ship name, sail date, booking number, cabin number. 1 week later I got the OBC.

neatokimmo Posted October 16, 2008 #247 Share Posted October 16, 2008 The range for CCL has been amazing lately. 25.90 - 29.45 for today alone! So mad at myself, I typoed my sale today and missed out on it. I hope it stays in the 29s tomorrow :) Dividends were est at .36-.38 for the next time. What could change that? Drop in oil (yipppee) and the dollar gaining strength against sterling. I so hope its better than .38, a great dividend might create a temp surge so I can dump some of my higher priced CCL. frodozz Posted October 16, 2008 #248 Share Posted October 16, 2008 We have an account with Ameritrade so I'm not sure how yours is done but ours was easy. Once we made the purchase we had to wait for the trade confirmation to post the information to our account. It took less than 24 hours to get access to our stock certificate. I printed that out and faxed it to Carnival. Time was of the essence for us as we purchased and sailed a week or so later. It was really easy and painless :) Good Luck :) I opened my account with Ameritrade on Wednesday and my purchase of 100 shares of Carnival went thru on Thursday morning. When i did a search for stock certificate it showed that it would cost 50 dollars to get a stock certificate. Is there another proof of stock ownership on the site that I can get for free that I can use to get my OBC. This is my first time to purchase stock so any help is appreciated. On scottrade, you go to my account, then my positions and all my stocks show up with the amount of shares...I've been told to just print that and fax it in, but I am having zero luck so far!! Carnival has been less than helpful with this as well...
DqALEX Posted October 17, 2008 Author #250 Share Posted October 17, 2008 Were you on a group cruise? No I wasn't with a group. Just me and my Family. I guess thats why your having a problem. I would have your T/A call and ask what needs to be done. You have the stock, you must get the OBC credit. Don't take no for and answer
